The Opportunity:


The Maternal Child Health Worker is accountable for the day-to-day support and programming to pregnant women, and mothers and fathers of infants and young children up to six years of age.

This includes the development and facilitation of educational programs, one-on-one support, and home visits to ensure families have opportunities to increase their preparedness for parenthood, and ability to effectively care for their infants and children and themselves.

**- **Provide outreach services, pre and postnatal support, informing communities about the Maternal Child Health Program**:

  • Provides services to clients supported by evidence, research and multidiscipline expertise on the wide range of health, social, and program specific issues related to health care services within First Nation communities and CSFS clinics

Carry out activities to support families in improving health outcomes for pregnant women and their families:

Facilitate workshops and information sessions, conduct interviews, intakes, and assessments:

Attend required meetings, events and training seminars as necessary:

Maintain effective communication with a wide array of individuals to reach strategic goals:

Collaborates with other multidisciplinary team members and physicians to facilitate an inter-professional approach to standards of practice with a focus on promoting team-based care

Conduct home visits, provide information related to parenting skills, problem solving, childhood growth and development, and provide referrals as required:

Assist with community kitchens

What You Will Bring to The Role:

Two-year diploma in a social science or health science degree program required, or:

-
DONA International certified Doula, and:

-
Experience and/or training in Early Childhood Education

The Location:


Fort Saint James, incorporated in 1952, has a population of approximately 4,700, including surrounding First Nations and rural communities. It is a tight knit community that offers an abundance of outdoor activities. The area has hundreds of lakes and rivers and a vast amount of rolling hills and forests. The local economy is well diversified, although resource oriented.
