The Role

Job Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain Fortis' health & safety policy, program, and all relating documents
  • Ensure & maintain compliance with current regulations, policies, procedures, and safe working practices while educating staff on maintaining a _"safety mindset"_ throughout the organization
  • Organize and conduct internal training programs where applicable in accordance with HR
  • Responsible for conducting health and safety orientation & sitespecific orientation to employees, trades, clients, visitors, etc.
  • Proactively conduct workplace and site inspections/audits and recommend corrective actions to prevent hazardous situations
  • Be present and active in all incident and accident reports & investigations
  • Collect and analyze workplace safety and incident/accident data and trends
  • Lead the organization towards COR certification processes & implementation
  • Develop workplace plans such as emergency evacuations & participate as an active management member of JHSC
  • Assist in the returntowork process with WSIB & develop return to work or modified work programs in accordance with HR
  • Monitor employees and subcontractors on site to ensure compliance to safety procedures and escalate issues to resolution
  • Review of Subcontractors' Pre-Construction safety submittals
  • Review and file Subcontractors' weekly safety submittals

Qualifications:


  • Minimum 5 years of working experience in a Health & Safety role
  • Mandatory working experience within the construction industry
  • Strong knowledge of the OHSA and regulations as it relates to Construction
  • Diploma and/or degree from a postsecondary institution considered an asset
  • IHSA National Construction Safety Officer (NCOS) certificate considered an asset
  • Construction Safety Coordinator Gold Seal Certification or CRSP Designation considered an asset
  • Certificate of Recognition (COR) Auditor Certification preferred and/or working experience with a COR certified organization considered an asset
  • Holds a current JHSC Part 1 & 2 certification
  • Working experience with WSIB Excellence Program
  • Valid G driver's license & the ability to travel to construction sites within Ontario
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision and develop internal health & safety practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a processoriented mindset
