Laboratory Technician - Saint-Lambert, Canada - Champlain Regional College
Description
PositionChamplain College Saint-Lambert is seeking the services of a full-time replacement LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (BIOLOGY) (35 hours per week).
Functions
Reporting to the Coordinator, Financial Services, the incumbent assists the teaching personnel in the preparation, presentation, supervision and evaluation of student laboratory work.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Use of laboratory and material
- Demonstrates and trains on how to use the chemicals, equipment and tools under his/her responsibility and assists students in using the laboratory facilities and in understanding instructions.
- Ensures that safety regulations are respected by all users of the laboratory equipment and facilities, maintains the biology laboratories in a working and safe condition and maintains the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) for chemicals used by the Biology department.
- Prepares chemicals and apparatus and samples required for in-class demonstrations and stores them after demonstrations;
- Disposes of waste materials in an appropriate manner and through proper channels;
- Repairs and calibrates equipment;
- Monitors and maintains the inventory of equipment and supplies used by the Biology department;
- Participates in the choice of specialized equipment to be used by Biology teachers;
- Assists the Department Coordinator with the planning and the control of the department budget;
- Prepares purchase requisitions or work orders when required.
Requirements:
Education
Must possess a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty such as "Biomedical Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Technology (Biotechnologies) or Animal health Technology" or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
CompetenciesMust be able to communicate in both English and French, orally and written;
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Asset
Training and experience in microbiology.

Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (35 hours per week) Depending on lab schedules, there will be flexible working hours to meet the department needs
Duration of contract:
At the latest, until the return of the incumbent or June 30, 2025 with possibility of renewal
Salary Scale: 24.21$ $
