    The City of Courtenay invites applications for the temporary positions of " Summer Inclusion Leaders (1, 2 and 3)".

    Summer Inclusion Leaders 1, 2 & 3 engage, integrate and lead in the creation of quality experiences for participants with diverse abilities into recreation programs and camps. Recreation Programming categories include: sports, arts, special interest, cooking, dance and more. Leaders will ensure the safety and confidentiality of all participants, take attendance and perform program set up and take down.

    Minimum Requirements

  • Inclusion Leader 1 High school diploma preferred or currently enrolled/completed Grade 11
  • Inclusion Leader 2 Completion of Grade 12 or currently enrolled in/completed a Post-Secondary Diploma and/or Degree in related field (ie. Therapeutic Recreation, Human Services, Community Support Worker, Special Education, etc) or a combination of education and experienceWillingness to obtain Class 4 licenceInterpersonal, communication, organizational, time-management, conflict resolution and problem-solving skillsHigh 5 Principles of Healthy Childhood Development and Food Safe would be an assetOther Education / Training surrounding diverse abilities
  • Inclusion Leader 3 Currently enrolled in/completed a Post-Secondary Diploma and/or Degree in related field (ie. Therapeutic Recreation, Human Services, Community Support Worker, Special Education, etc) or a combination of education and experience Class 4 driver's license preferred (Activity Leader 3)High 5 Principles of Healthy Childhood Development and Food Safe would be an assetOther Education / Training surrounding diverse abilities
  • All Levels Criminal Records ClearanceCurrent Standard First Aid and CPR Level C (or willing to obtain)Experience with variety of age groups and abilitiesExperience working with people with diverse abilitiesExperience in a recreational sport, education, music, dance, cooking or art settingInterpersonal, communication, organizational, time-management, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skillsAbility to adapt activities to meet participant's needsHighly motivated and ability to work as a team and independentlyAbility to build healthy relationships with participants and promote positive values and recreational benefitsStrong commitment to professionalismDemonstrates ability to safety and effectively lead and facilitate various levels of abilities and agesAbility to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Class 5 drivers' licence; willingness to obtain Class 4 licence
  • Non-violent crisis intervention
  • Wage range is between $21.00 and $30.00 per hour, depending on experience. There are various full and part-time positions; hours range between 7:45 am and 5:15 pm; Monday to Friday.
