The Opportunity


We are currently seeking an
Area Project Manager - Surface to join our
North Atlantic Project Group in
Sudbury .

This is a
permanent position.

  • Responsible for the integration of the interfaces between planning, scheduling, engineering, health and safety, procurement, project controls, supply chain, and execution delivery in relation to the overall project deliverables for the surface area construction.
  • Field execution including all elements of health and safety, quality, field engineering, site construction, contractual relations, teamwork, and handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate different project functions to ensure the project schedule and execution plan is met.
  • Prepares the work plans, schedules, and budgets for the Area in conjunction with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Project Controls.
  • Lead Technical Evaluation of future Contracts during bid process, proving approval for proponents deemed technically capable to perform the work.
  • Approves Field Work Instructions, advising contractors to implement work in accordance with the terms of contracts.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain team the delivery of material and equipment required for Surface Construction, being responsible to prioritize demands as required.
  • Work in partnership with the Area Project Manager counterpart to ensure that the critical path of the execution schedule is being maintained.
  • Ensure the project objectives are the same as the business objectives in respect of scope, quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Work in collaboration with the Surface Construction Manager to ensure the requirements for the surface construction execution are being is supported within the home office.
  • Provide support to the adherence of the current agreements with the Provincial and Aboriginal governments within their Area.
  • Proactive support for project SHE initiatives. Promote and maintain a safe and environmentally compliant workplace that targets our Zero Harm values.

About You

  • Undergraduate degree is required
  • P. Eng. designation is an asset
  • Certified Associate of Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred

Other Knowledge and Skills:


  • Record of leadership and successful management of projects with a capital cost in the region of $100 million+.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of project tracking and scheduling software.
  • Must possess planning and problemsolving skills and be able to set clear, measurable goals.
  • Excellent time management without sacrificing quality. Ability to be organized, efficient and able to prioritize.
  • Ability to negotiate well and handle any issues with diplomacy and tact.
  • Possess a good eye for detail and ability to analyze data.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills.
