Job Summary:
The Writer, Learning Development will report to the Manager of Volunteer Resources and Learning Development and will specifically focus on creating and writing supportive resources for the UGM Staff teams.
While not part of the Creative Services team, the writer will be in consultation with them on using the "UGM voice" and other brand guidelines to incorporate it into the program side of things.
Additionally, there will be opportunity to assist in writing curriculum for trainings specifically centered on supporting staff. The writer will seek to work in partnership across branches to identify sharable resources and produce resources where there are gapsMain Duties and Responsibilities:
- Model Christ in word and deed.
- Work with the Manager to write and coordinate universal training for all departments, supportive documents, and resources.
- Consult with Managers, across departments, to identify resource needs and approaches that will support staff. This may involve consultation with other team members to gather information, and collaborating for ongoing research and editing purposes (i.e. determining which documents need to be edited or created).
- Research resources and best practices that other organizations and sectors have in place that may support UGM's programs and staff.
Written Communication
- Write, edit and proofread all Learning Development communications copy that meet project goals and objectives. Writing projects include training manuals, program resources, transcribing, editorial, reports, storyboards, scripts, technical copy, signage and copy for print and digital projects.
- Ensure all written communications copy aligns with UGM's brand guidelines and voice.
- Execute requests for writing projects within Learning Development, managing at each stage of writing projects including drafts, proofing, implementing edits and delivery.
- Coordinate projects with interdepartmental teams. Attend discovery meetings, communicate project needs, provide feedback and followup on projects with UGM's Creative Services team.
- When necessary, provide onsite interview and consultation with program managers and staff.
- Assist in cataloguing and writing curriculum for program centered trainings.
Concept Development & Creative Process
- Participate in a collaborative creative process with Manager, Volunteer Resources & Learning Development and at times the CS team as needed (graphic designer, photographer, creative producer and external contractors) to brainstorm and creatively solution to program pieces. This includes Research & Discovery, Concept Development & Presentation, Storyboarding, and Design Development.
- Participate in discovery meetings with internal clients to understand project goals and objectives.
Voice & Branding
- Maintain UGM's voice and grammar standards in all print and digital communications.
- Adhere to UGM's writing style guide in consultation with the CSPS.
Collaboration
- Build strong relationships with department through out UGM to assist in gathering information, noting points of similarity and difference, and creating strong communication pathways.
- Model open communication and work collaboratively within UGM as a whole for the good of the organization, in support of UGM's mission, core values and strategic plan.
- Supervise outside consultants and vendors, as necessary.
- Adhere to all UGM published policies, practices and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Excellent communication and computer/word processing skills are required (Google Drive, Teams, Word, Outlook, and Excel).
- Demonstrated analytical thinking and organizational skills required.
- Experience writing and developing training curriculum is an asset.
- Relevant training and experience required.
