Summary:


Reporting to the Leader, Disability Management, the Coordinator, Disability & Attendance Management is responsible for acting as a Providence Health Care (PHC) representative by providing straight-forward case management services to the Employee and Manager.

Coordinates the employee's absence due to occupational and non-occupational illness or injury, encompassing the follow up, assessment, evaluation, planning and monitoring of options available to meet their individual health needs.

Liaises with multiple stakeholders including management, unions, third parties and other representatives to ensure the best possible health/work outcome and ensure a stream-lined process.

The Coordinator also provides leadership and strategies to management and staff to mitigate absences due to occupational and non-occupational injury and/or illness.


The position is responsible for the coordination and implementation of managing Providence Health Care's Attendance and Wellness Promotion Program to assist in reaching sick leave targets, promote wellness in the workplace and advocate for staff to achieve regular attendance at work.

The Coordinator provides advice, guidance and support to PHC management relevant to attendance and wellness in the workplace and coordinates and provides necessary technological support and reporting related to sick time for management staff.

Develops and updates related policies, procedures, educational programs and training materials, related to Attendance and Wellness in collaboration with the Leader.


Qualifications / Skills and Education:

Education

Completion of a recognized Degree, Diploma or Certificate with emphasis on Human Resources, Occupational Health (Disability Management) or a related health care plus two (2) years recent, related experience in a large, complex environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of disability management and relevant human resources principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of relevant collective agreement provisions, government legislation and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use a disability case management model.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships, both internal and external.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong decision making, criticalthinking, analytical and problemsolving ability.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Intermediate skills using a variety of computerized software packages such as Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Access, Excel,
  • Visio and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to use relevant Human Resources Information Systems.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Duties and Responsibilities:


Coordinates straight-forward disability management cases by working with the injured/ill employee on their absence including assessing, evaluating and assisting the employee in managing their absences and by providing early intervention strategies.


Provides referrals to early intervention resources such as the Enhanced Disability Management Program (EDMP), communicates with applicable stakeholders (e.g., Managers, Unions, rehabilitation providers, and third party insurers), coordinates resources for physical and mental demand analyses of jobs to assist with functional assessment, follows up on matters relating to the interpretation of medical information, assists in determining work suitability, and coordinates various aspects of the employee's rehabilitation plan including Return to Work Programs (RTW).

Escalates complex cases to DTA-DM Advisor or Leader as per established guidelines.


Provides consultation and expertise to PHC Leaders, Management staff, HR staff, Union Representatives and Employees on policy relative to general and specific medical absences and rehabilitation issues based on knowledge of the WCB Act, Human Rights legislation, collective agreement provisions and PHC policy and procedures.


Gathers and reviews sick leave reports with applicable management staff to identify employees to participate in the Attendance and Wellness Promotion Program according to established guidelines.

Follows up on Attendance Meeting outcomes, and works with necessary stakeholders to determine proper course of action.


Monitors the status of employees participating in programs such as AWP and EDMP by running scheduled reports and following up with management, employees and/or union representatives.
