About the role:

The Clinical Scholar Program is a new initiative that leverages the clinical delivery expertise within AMGH.

In accordance with organizational and professional standards, Nursing Clinical Scholars with front line experience and practice will provide mentorship to newly graduated nurses or existing nurses currently transitioning to a new unit requiring upskilling of their nursing knowledge, specializing in obstetrics.


The Clinical Scholar will support novice learners in their practice and integration into care areas in accordance with college standards, policies and procedures, and in collaboration with the clinical team.

The Clinical Scholar will guide and support the novice learner in providing high quality, safe care for patients and families, while demonstrating a commitment to excellence in supporting the patient and family experience.

The Clinical Scholars serve as a liaison and conduit between novice learners and between unit leadership.


The Clinical Scholar will create, adapt, and deliver orientation and learning resources, using various delivery methods in accordance with organizational and unit policies/practices/guidelines.

The Clinical Scholar will provide an ongoing presence on the clinical unit(s) to support the ongoing development of the new graduates, as well as tracking and documentation of skillset achievement, and will provide ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the new graduate and the scholar program, including the creation of learning goals and objectives.


Qualifications:


  • Registered Nurse (RN) or a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in the General Class; or nurses who have retired and maintain registration with the CNO.
  • 10 years Obstetrical experience in a hospital clinical setting.
  • Extensive clinical experience in obstetrical nursing, including antenatal, labor and delivery, postpartum, and neonatal care.
  • Proven experience in nursing education, curriculum development, and program implementation.
  • Organizational and timemanagement skills to handle multiple educational projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated leadership, change management and problem solving skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.

Required Skills:


  • Proven ability to evaluate clinical learners and orient new nurses to hospital policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Provides onunit, bedside support and professional development activities across the hospital
  • Supports clinical leadership in competency evaluations and reporting issues
  • Participates in data collection and reporting requirements as per ministry requirements for the Clinical Scholars program
  • Demonstrates excellent problemsolving, decision making and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational and timemanagement skills
  • Works effectively as an active interdisciplinary care team member with nurses, leaders, physicians and others.
  • Responds positively to change

  • Deliver engaging and interactive training sessions to new nurses, both in the classroom and clinical settings.
  • Conduct simulations and handson training sessions to enhance practical skills in managing obstetrical emergencies and critical situations.
  • Provide oneonone mentoring and coaching to individual nurses, offering personalized guidance and support.
  • Design and implement competency assessments to evaluate new nurses' performance in obstetrical care.
  • Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback to help nurses achieve competence and proficiency.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments and advancements in obstetrical nursing by attending conferences, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
  • Share knowledge and insights with the nursing team to promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of educational activities, including attendance, evaluations, and outcomes.
  • Prepare reports on the effectiveness of educational programs and present findings to nursing leadership
