Nursing Assistant II, Surgical Day Care

What you'll do

  • Set up and positions a variety of equipment/accessories within the Procedure Rooms, such as procedure trays, procedure tables and suction equipment, by methods such as checking the procedure slate for scheduled surgeries, identifying written equipment requirements and determining additional accessories needed; obtaining and transporting items to designated areas; and making equipment adjustments when requested; removes equipment from Procedure Room after surgery.
  • Clean instruments by rinsing, identifying, and placing on an open tray for return to the Sterile Processing Department. Report any missing instruments to the Nurse Clinician.
  • Clean floors, walls, doors, sinks and furniture, including patient care equipment following established cleaning procedures by dusting, wiping, damp mopping, spot washing and disinfecting as required.
  • Change, clean and remake SDC beds. Empty and clean waste containers and remove garbage from room as well as emptying and disposing of linen bags as per established procedures as required. Report any concerns to the Nurse Clinicians.
  • Restock Procedure Rooms with medical / surgical supplies. Clean and store specialized equipment such as suction, pulse oximeters and I.V Pumps per established procedures.
  • Maintain equipment in a clean and safe condition and report damaged or inoperable equipment fixtures, or furniture to appropriate person.
  • Transport specimens to and from required areas.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you bring

Qualifications:


  • Grade 12, successful completion of Sterile Supply Processing course, plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training ad experience.
You will also have

  • Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology
  • Mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to communicate and deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and antiracism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
