Position Overview

  • Our Parks Department currently has auxiliary opportunities for Lead Park Rangers. This is lead hand, regulatory, enforcement and public relations work to ensure public compliance with regulations and bylaws within District parks. The incumbent will be responsible for scheduling, assigning and reviewing work and providing day to day direction to a group of seasonal park rangers. This position involves considerable public contact which requires the exercise of tact, discretion and sound judgement.
  • Duties include providing information and direction to park users about park facilities, trails, natural history and park ecology. You will inspect park facilities and report damage, monitor park usage to prevent overcrowding, inform users of park regulations, patrol park areas to prevent and/or stop inappropriate behaviour, and contact appropriate authorities when necessary. Duties also include interacting, working and coordinating with the homeless. You have exceptional customer service skills in order to respond and problem solve with tact and diplomacy. You will exercise independent judgement and perform the duties within policy and regulation limits. You will also prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports as required.
  • Hours of work for these positions may be any day of the week and may vary between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00pm.

Compensation

  • The salary range for these auxiliary positions is $28.56 to $33.56 per hour (2021 Rates), plus 12% in lieu of all benefits.
