POSITION PURPOSE:


Reporting to the Supervisor, LTC Maintenance and Security, is responsible for performing minor general repairs and ensuring the safety of the residents by checking, testing and reporting on the conditions of a variety of equipment found within the Long Term Care facilities, in accordance with the standards established through the Ministry of Health and LTC, LTC Health Act and Department policies and procedures.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance using a computerized maintenance system, as assigned.
  • Conducts safety and maintenance inspections on fire safety equipment, patient ceiling lifts, furniture, electrical appliances, beds, etc., as assigned.
  • Performs testing and maintenance in compliance with regulations in the Ontario Fire Code, Building Code and Canadian Electrical Code (e.g. signs off fire extinguishers, tests exit and emergency lights).
  • Performs minor plumbing, electrical, flooring, carpentry, door hardware, and drywall repairs.
  • Responds to inquiries and resolves concerns, as appropriate.
  • Liaises with contractors as required; provides them with access cards, directs them to work areas and monitors to ensure their access is limited to appropriate areas.
  • Ensures timely response to assigned work orders and that services provided meet Regional customer service standards.
  • Brings more complicated repairs to the attention of the Building Services Engineer.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
  • May occasionally be required to respond to emergency situations outside of normal business hours, as related to the Departmental Emergency Plan.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a Secondary School Diploma or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years repair experience in an institutional, commercial or multiunit residential setting.
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Checks (PVSC).
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
  • Experience and technical skills to undertake minor plumbing, flooring, carpentry, door hardware and drywall repairs and minor electrical work such as plugs, switches, lights, etc.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Long Term Care Health Act, Ontario Fire Code, WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety Act as related to environmental and maintenance services.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership.
