Construction Health & Safety Manager

Responsibilities of this position include:
- Monitoring compliance with and enforcing VPAC Construction Group Occupational Health and Safety Manual
- Ensuring a safe working environment for all VPAC Construction Group employees
- Raising awareness of health and safety issues and reporting on key issues
- Promoting a culture of safety within the organization and on the job site
- Reviewing and managing risk for workplace safety hazards
- Collaborating with Site Superintendents, CSOs, and Project Managers to ensure compliance with safety legislation and regulations
- Liaising with and report to WorkSafe BC on health and safety matters
- Facilitating Safety Committee meetings and Toolbox Meetings
- Conducting safety inspections at VPAC Construction Group job sites
- Carrying out safety corrective actions where necessary
- Investigating and documenting complaints related to health and safety
- Investigating and documenting workplace accidents, and report them to the COO in a timely manner
- Investigating and documenting workplace incidents or nearmisses
- Advising on and directing corrective actions for all incidents, accidents, or nearmisses
- Keeping detailed records of safetyrelated complaints, accidents, incidents, or nearmisses in Procore, and liaise with the HR Manager to ensure documentation is recorded on the relevant employee's file
- Maintaining and managing safety records and documentation
- General management of safety administration
- Conducting safety orientation and training for new employees
- Schedule training for current employees to update fall protection, confined space, WHMIS, and fit test certifications
- 5+ years of experience in health and safety in the construction industry
- CSO certification or equivalent
- First Aid Level 2 certification minimum
- OFA Level 3 an asset
- Knowledge and understanding of B.C. occupational health and safety legislation and regulations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- High level of integrity and accountability
- Proactive problemsolving skills and ability to manage difficult situations
- Ability to read and interpret contract drawings an asset
