(GEMS) is a boutique-sized firm established in 2005 to serve a growing need for environmental professionals to effectively address increasingly complex regulatory compliance requirements faced by the construction and land development industries.

GEMS has grown over the years, providing a wide range of multi-disciplinary environmental services and has achieved its success by effectively bridging the gap between regulatory agencies and its clients.


GEMS is looking for an
Environmental Technician with experience conducting environmental inspections, installing monitoring instruments, soil and groundwater sampling, coordinating and supervision borehole drilling or environmental investigations, summarizing field data and preparing summary reports.

This skilled position is based out of our Concord, Ontario location. Field work is a requirement, with Projects spanning Mississauga, Toronto and Hamilton. A hybrid work model is encouraged.


Responsibilities

  • Able and willing to travel a minimum of 75% of the time to perform tasks at customer sites.
  • Assist and learn from experienced field service technicians and equipment supplier representatives.
  • Assisting in various geotechnical, hydrogeological and/or other environmental field investigation projects
  • Completing air sampling and monitoring, noise and vibration installation and monitoring, flow meter installation and any other remote monitoring installation as deemed necessary under GEMS scope of work
  • Communicate effectively with manufacturer representatives to resolve technical issues.
  • Establish a positive and professional relationship with customer personnel.
  • Be proactive at learning new components and design principles as they are introduced.
  • Proactively identify product/service sales opportunities at customer sites that will enhance customer's environmental monitoring performance.
  • Complete assigned installation and service routes in an efficient manner.
  • Communicate with your supervisor, and other team members.
  • Follow company policy and procedures.
  • Complete necessary paperless and paperbased procedures.
  • Promote and practice proper safety procedures and correct use of company tools.
  • Keep work area orderly and clean.
  • Preparation of data tables, weekly and monthly reporting, and health and safety plans
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 70lbs. Capable of ascending/descending ladders. Working in kneeling, crouching, or bending positions.
  • Able to work with hand and power tools.
  • Work in high places and noisy, hot, cold, and tight environments.

Hiring Requirements (_Skills, Abilities, Traits, Characteristics, Experience, Education & Accomplishments_)

  • College Diploma or Post-Secondary Degree in an Earth Science, Environmental, or Civil Engineering Technology/Technician program
  • 03 years of experience in a related area/field of work
  • Working knowledge and understanding of environmental investigations, geotechnical and/or hydrogeological processes
  • Must be able to perform frequent standing, bending, twisting, crawling, kneeling, squatting, climbing, reaching and grasping.
  • Must have access to a reliable vehicle and hold a valid driver's licence
  • General experience with Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word, and Teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with clear well written notes

Salary:
$18.75-$30.00 per hour
