Introduction & Key Role Objective


WJ Groundwater is the leading construction dewatering and groundwater specialist in the UK with operations in Canada, the Middle East, Poland & the Philippines.

We have specialized plant and equipment that allows us to install custom dewatering systems in various environments including from within tunnels and shafts and from the surface.

WJ Groundwater strives to meet client expectations for dewatering system performance and execute projects on time and on budget.

Your principle function as Project Manager is to be the key person between the design team and installation team in the implementation of dewatering and monitoring schemes and act as team leader and main point of contact for our clients.


Key Role Objectives


The principal function of this position is to coordinate and manage the installation and operation of dewatering schemes as designed.

Majority of the role will be to work closely with clients to set programmes, coordinate works and deliveries on site, and maintain accurate site records.

Dewatering works are to take place at surface, in excavations/shafts and underground in tunnels. WJ Groundwater offers an extensive training and development program which will commence after individuals complete their probationary period. Company Induction, Initial basic training & PPE issue will be provided from commencement of your employment.


Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Deliver WJ's contractual obligations as directed by the Operations Manager.
  • Supervise site activities and closely liaise with our clients, site staff, supervisors, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Maintain a documentary record, to a high quality standard of WJ's contractual activities including the collection, collation and presentation of data.
  • Perform project management and dissemination responsibilities, including drafting regular progress reports and participating in team meetings.
  • Ensure the financial profitability of the assigned project, by measuring the earned value and monitoring the expenditures and workforce requirement.
  • Prepare Method Statements, including working drawings and work procedures.
  • Appoint and brief the site team, including specialist subcontractors.
  • Define the project programme & ensure contractual targets are met.
  • Undertake business development activities for new contracts. This may involve site visits to collect information, discussing our client's requirements, pursuing tenders, and assisting in the preparation of tenders and quotations.
  • Be responsible for own health and safety and prepare Risk Assessments for our activities. Brief, check and audit site staff to ensure safe working practices are being followed.
  • Constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of engineering and financial status reports to our clients.
  • Consistently deliver on each project to achieve toptier industry benchmarks for quality, overall project delivery and project financials.
  • Directly line manage assigned staff.


The above is not exhaustive and you will be expected to undertake any other duties which may reasonably fall within the level of responsibility and competence.


Qualifications & Experience
A motivated and hardworking individual with good written and communication skills is essential. Minimum 2 years' experience within the construction industry managing projects and site staff in a similar environment.


Additional requirements:

  • A degree in a relevant engineering discipline (ex. civil, geotechnical or environmental engineering).
  • Comprehensive understanding of water management and hydrogeology, engineering geology or civil engineering.
  • Experience in contract administration, client relations and construction field supervision.
  • Ability to read, analyze and modify technical drawings and prints.
  • Experience in the supervision of geotechnical activities and use of the 'observational method'.
  • Firm understanding of water well drilling, development and rehabilitation.
  • Experience working on dewatering various ground and groundwater conditions.
  • Resourcefulness, initiative and the ability to work unsupervised in often difficult site conditions.
  • The ability to plan and organize own workload, as well as that of your team.
  • Experience and confidence in managing others.
  • The ability to manage multiple high value projects under tight deadlines.
  • Comprehensive awareness of commercial issues, ideally including knowledge of construction industry contracts.
  • Competent user of Microsoft and AutoDesk suites.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills and written communication skills in English. French language skill is considered an asset the ability to communicate complicated and sometimes sensitive concepts is an essential requirement.
  • The ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts to multidisciplinary teams is essential.
