Job Description

Reporting to the Manager of Transportation, the Driver provides safe and reliable transportation of agency clients, who are primarily seniors during the week, evenings and/or on weekends.

The Driver will also assist with the delivery of Meals on Wheels, courier or other driver services as required. The Driver team is recently unionized with SEIU.


We are looking for:
two part-time, permanent Drivers


Hourly Rate:
Commensurate with experience


Hours of Work: 2-3 days a week including one shift ending at 7pm


Reports to:
Manager, Client Services


Responsibilities:

Safe and timely transport of clients to and from their destinations

  • On the day of scheduled service, contacts each client to confirm ride is still required and tentative pick up time
  • Transports clients according to the predetermined transportation schedule.
  • Attends to clients' needs while using the transportation service.
  • When necessary, meets clients at the door and walks them to the van.
  • Assists clients to enter and depart from the vehicle.
  • Ensures that clients are seated properly and that seat belts are used.
  • Assists with bags and carryon items as required. This position may require you to lift at a minimum 15 20lbs, potentially up to 89 hours per day
  • Reports immediately to the Manager of Transportation all concerns, questions or problems regarding the client, the schedule and/or the vehicle.
Customer Service

  • Effectively meets all client services requirements in a courteous and professional manner
  • Proactively trouble shoots problems, deals with difficult situations, and escalates to Manager of Transportation when extra assistance is required.
  • Participate in client satisfaction initiatives that continuously improve quality levels.
Ensures the safe operation, maintenance, neatness and cleanliness of the vehicle

  • Keeps the Manager of Transportation informed of required maintenance and any damage done to the vehicle.
  • Completes vehicle checklist before taking the vehicle out for the day.
  • Maintains adequate gasoline in vehicle and follows procedures for gasoline credit card use.
Health and Safety Management

  • Responsible for identifying health and safety concerns and injury reporting
  • Participate in health and safety processes and procedures
  • Participate in maintaining a safe workplace environment
  • Participate in all health and safety training initiatives

Qualifications:


  • Must hold a valid G driver's license with a driving record in good standing
  • Minimum of 5 years Canadian driving experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.
  • Willingness to assist seniors with varying physical impairments.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate a passenger van.
  • Demonstrated efforts to continuously update skills.
  • Language skills are an asset (e.g. Russian, Yiddish, and Hebrew).
