Responsibilities:


Payroll Administration

  • Collect, review and enhance payroll information to submit to payroll agency for processing
  • UK (monthly) as well as Sweden (monthly) and Europe (monthly)
  • Collect, review and enhance payroll information to prepare payroll (USA (semimonthly)
  • Support deductions and remittances to pension as well as stock option campaigns
  • Manage time and attendance training, submission and reporting
  • Determines time worked from time sheets and verifies proper authorization
  • Calculates payrolls, including standard deductions and taxes, often against tight deadlines
  • Investigate payroll related requirements (via payroll agency support) in various jurisdictions and bring actions to conclusion
  • Responsible for calculating the effect of changes related to employees as well as changes in laws
  • Year end tax reporting to relevant government agencies
  • Ensure the computing, withholding and calculating of deductions associated with net pay is done properly, including federal and state withholding and unemployment insurances as well as direct deposit information
  • Align benefit enrolments and premiums to payroll to ensure correct taxability and deductions from employees
  • Upload benefit related data to the benefit providers
  • Prepare and set up wire transfers for payroll related payments
  • Ensure positive and productive relationships with internal / external customers
  • Keep Standard Operating Procedures current for payroll processes
  • Responsible for entering and maintaining all payroll journal entries to the general ledger in SAP and reconciling general ledger accounts
  • Trouble shoot and resolve accounting issues
  • Answers payroll questions to employees and management
  • Cross trained on the Canadian payroll and benefits administration
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Experience:


  • Detailed knowledge of procedures covering multiple payrolls, which require some variations in deduction and tax treatment
  • Experience working with payroll for other countries
  • Well developed analytic and problem solving capabilities
  • Ability to investigate issues, triangulate data and reach conclusions and bring the issue to resolution
  • Knowledge of ADP or other payroll system
  • Experience with SAP is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of legislation and labour standards
  • Strong ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Experienced in streamlining complex processes
  • Successful in dealing with customer and internal employees at all levels
  • Hands on selfstarter, disciplined and the ability to work independently in a fastpaced environment
  • Experienced in leveraging technological solutions to streamline processes
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)

Qualifications:


  • College diploma in Accounting or equivalent work experience
  • Payroll Association accreditation
  • 10 years payroll and general accounting experience
