Opportunity

MacEwan University is currently looking for casual Exercise Specialist Is for our Sport and Wellness Department.

The Exercise Specialist I is responsible for the design and delivery of health and fitness assessments, exercise prescriptions, programs and facility monitoring with the overall goal of meeting the health and wellness needs of all patrons of the Centre, including students, athletes, staff, faculty, and public clientele.

The successful incumbent will have:

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Selfdisciplined, motivated and able to work independently
  • Confident in fitness testing skills and the prescription of exercise to meet client needs
  • Creative and able to problemsolve
  • Organizational and prioritization skills
  • Able to work with diverse individuals
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of Word, Publisher, Excell and other MS Office publications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2year diploma in Physical Education or other Health related fields.
  • Certified with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP), Health and Fitness Program as a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), ACSM-CPT a consideration.
  • Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA) in the specialty of Group Fitness or equivalent group exercise certification (i.e. CanFit-Pro) and Resistance training certification are assets.
  • Standard First Aid, CPR, Automated External Defibrillation (AED), Oxygen Administration certifications.
  • Six months to one year of practical experience in a fitness area setting, group/specialty class instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in exercise program development, fitness testing and experience in the delivery of workshops.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Requires flexible work hours and rotating schedules that cover all hours of facility operations, with primary shifts on weekday evenings (i.e.
5:00 to 10:00 p.m.) and weekends (8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.).

  • Successful incumbents will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
