Summary


The Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) program of Impact North Shore is currently seeking a dynamic Youth Equity Worker who will be responsible for organizing and facilitating workshops and youth activities focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

This role may also involve supplying one-to-one information, support, and referrals to eligible immigrant youth in School Districts 44 and 45, aged between 8-12 and 13-18 years.

The Youth Equity Worker will also conduct related outreach, marketing, and community engagement activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and conducts youth workshops and activities on leadership, equity, diversity and inclusion as per funding deliverables.
  • Develops partnerships with school staff and administration to effectively connect with new immigrant students.
  • Keeps informed of current resources, trends, needs, changes, and service gaps in the general community and specific client communities.
  • Organizes youth programming including training and overseeing shortterm contracted facilitators.
  • Assesses youth needs, strengths and assets and provides referrals to community resources.
  • Conducts outreach to community organizations for purposes of participant recruitment.
  • Keeps informed of programs, services, and community resources available to youths on the North Shore.
  • Provides basic information for mental health and trauma support as needed.
  • Ensures that clients have access to necessary service support, including school district resources.
  • Implements evaluation of group activities and participates in service quality improvement activities.
  • Informs SWIS Lead of any significant concerns/client issues promptly.
  • Collaborates with community partners and schools to increase awareness of emerging youth needs.
  • Ensures all required service data is correctly entered into Impact North Shore and government databases.
  • Promptly responds to queries regarding service data quality.
  • Ensures all necessary administrative tasks related to service are completed, ensuring all privacy and confidentiality requirements are met.
  • Performs all administrative tasks as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the SWIS Lead.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in a direct client service role, preferably with immigrants and an understanding of the immigrant and refugee experience, and settlementintegration stages/process
  • Bachelor's degree in Community Development, Humanities, or Counselling or High School completion with a diploma or certificate in Community Development, Humanities, or Counselling and/or relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of Canadian legal, political, cultural, employment, educational, and economic systems
  • Knowledge of general and culturallyspecific community resources and services on the North Shore
  • Familiarity with immigrant youth barriers, diversity, issues related to discrimination and youthrelated community resources and supports.
  • Experienced in establishing professional boundaries with clients.
  • Sensible and sound judgement
  • Ability to work in a team environment, as well as a capacity to selfmotivate and work independently.
  • Ability to identify barriers to services to promote equity and inclusion for a diverse client population.
  • Excellent knowledge of Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, Zoom and the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies required for excellent service delivery as needed.
