A day in the role of a Therapeutic Lead

  • As a Therapeutic Lead
  • BSO at Dundurn Place Care Centre, you will be given high expectations, as well as an expectation to continue personal growth and professional growth.   • As a Therapeutic Lead
  • This position is responsible for but not limited to:
  • Work closely with the internal interdisciplinary team to receive referrals and create therapeutic interventions.
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate recreation therapy activities inc, ensuring programs and activities meet established policies, physicians orders, residents care plans and meet individual resident goals.-
  • Develop and sustain a care plan to meet the assessed needs of a diverse group of residents based on individual strengths, needs and the interests of our residents, establish the importance and direction of Therapeutic Recreation intervention.-
  • Communicates and promotes the activities of the department to residents, team members, families,volunteers, and the community to encourage collaborative participation in programs-
  • Keeping up with best practices within the industry, and up to date with ongoing education sessions-
  • Guiding recreation therapy assistants to ensure proper documentation is completed (e.g MDS/RAI, Welbi,-
  • Care Plans and assessments). Observe/participate in the facilitation of activities, engages in reflective practice to ensure appropriate programming is taking place-
  • Complete initial and ongoing programs assessments as necessary to determine residents' recreation and rehabilitation needs.-
  • Lead, facilitate and participate in local in-service programs, seminars, resident care conferences and workshops.-
  • Report indicators to the Program Manager/designate
  • Performing other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications

The qualifications needed to join our family at Dundurn Place Care Centre are as follows:


  • Therapeutic Recreation degree and/or postgraduate therapeutic recreation diploma
  • Membership in good standing with therapeutic recreation TRO and/or with Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA)
  • Registered Recreation Therapist R/TRO certification; or eligible to obtain registration with TRO
  • A valid canadian driver's license and the ability to support residents, their families and team members across a large geographic area within the Central West LHIN
  • Qualifications
must meet definition under MDS-RAI guidelines
  • Relevant clinical experience (35 years as a Recreation Therapist) Experience working with older adults with complex mental health concerns and addictions
  • Experience working within an interprofessional team model; long term care setting preferred
  • Experience providing interventions and strategies to help manage responsive expressions using a person centered care approach
  • Experience implementing quality improvement initiatives
  • Experience with electronic documentation, specifically the resident assessment instrument (RAI) documentation, including assessments. Resident assessment protocols (RAPS), care planning functions, and welbi.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to share interventions and strategies throughout the interdisciplinary team.
  • Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB test results less than 6 months old, must be able to provide three supervisory references.
Additional Training/Certifications

  • U-First as an asset
  • Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) basics training required
  • Mental Health first Aid for Seniors Training required
