Position Summary:


This role will provide guidance and leadership within the Corporation and the community on accessibility, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives including ensuring that the County's Accessibility and EDI lens is applied to programs, projects, services, policies and procedures.

This role contributes to achieving the goals of the County's Strategic Plan, organizational priorities, vision, mission, and values.

This role will advance accessibility, equity, diversity, and inclusion at the County of Huron within our employment systems and identify opportunities to further change efforts throughout the organization.

This role will lead the implementation of the County's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan and will lead an internal cross-departmental EDI Committee, as well as the Accessibility Committee to identify opportunities to make change, share best practices and solve problems in a collaborative environment.

Role and Responsibilities:


Accessibility:

  • Provide policy advice to the County and Lower Tier departments in order to achieve AODA standards.
  • Monitor the ongoing delivery and implementation of the County's Accessibility Plan and provide regular updates to relevant persons and committees.
  • Coordinate and prepare mandatory compliance reports.
  • Draft policies and approval for HCAAC and others.
  • Provide support and leadership to the Huron County Accessibility Advisory Committee, including updating the accessibility plans annually, projecting future needs, making recommendations and creating awareness for an inclusive community.
  • Provide ongoing support to ensure all administrative requirements of the HCAAC are met in a timely manner, this will include data entry, minute taking and creation of various reports and other documents.
  • Responsible for activities related to the creation and implementation of the annual corporate accessibility plan, including identifying, developing and supporting appropriate policies and practices to promote an inclusive culture that integrates accessibility into our community.
  • Continue with the implementation of the Annual Accessibility Plan.
  • Ensure compliance with upcoming legislation regarding accessibility including the development and ongoing maintenance of a multiyear plan.
  • Coordinate, develop and implement all legislative training initiatives for the County and Lower Tier Municipalities.
  • Identify accessibility issues, needs, resources and opportunities for integrated planning across the County of Huron.
  • Provide leadership, support and expertise in accessibilityrelated issues to staff.
  • Attend HCAAC meetings, HCAAC working group meetings, Committee of the Whole and County Council meetings as required, Site Plan Review meetings and facilitate training sessions for the purpose of accessibility within the County and other meetings as required.
  • Communicate with internal (County and Lower Tier) staff at all levels and external elected officials, municipal counterparts and members of the public.
  • Perform other jobrelated administrative functions as required.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion:

  • Lead the implementation of the County's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan which includes strategies, measurable actions, and activities to ensure our employment systems and employee programs are equitable and inclusive.
  • Deliver programs and services to promote inclusive recruitment and retention strategies, branding strategies and best practices in support of our diverse talent and culture of inclusion.
  • Lead the corporation in an ongoing process to identify and make recommendations to eliminate systemic barriers and inequities. Seek out and advocate for best practices.
  • Leading, coordinating, and supporting an employee working group, the County's EDI Committee. Regularly seeking advice and guidance from the Committee; managing all administration for the committee, coordinating reporting and measurement of outcomes.
  • Lead the development, sourcing and/or facilitation of employee and leader training programs related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
