ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
This role reports to Lab Instructors in the Brewing & Brewery Operations department.


SUMMARY


The Laboratory Assistant - Brewing & Brewery Operations assists the Brewing Lab Instructors with the cleaning and production tasks associated with beer production.

She or he is also expected to work the public beer sales shifts every Friday afternoon, as well as help set-up, tear down, and work at off-site events on week days and weekends, whenever these events should occur.

Work will be scheduled up to 35 hours per week as needed.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clean the NSI Brewhouse according to the Brewhouse CIP Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Perform both cleaning and sanitizing CIP cycles on Fermentation Vessels and Bright Beer Tanks
  • Perform chemical titrations to determine the effectiveness of our cleaning agents.
  • Perform cleaning cycles on the bottling line, and Cask MCS canning line as required by the Brewing Lab Instructors
  • Participate in bottling, kegging, and canning operations as needed.
  • Fill growlers and operate the Point of Sale terminal on public sales days.
  • Help setup and tear down for both onsite and offsite events.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in the brewing industry or enrollment in the Brewing & Brewery Operations diploma program would be a distinct asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of the course content, laboratory and field equipment and techniques pertaining to Brewing and Brewery Operations.
  • Good knowledge of preventative measures required for the safe operation of laboratory equipment used in Brewery and Brewery Operations, including familiarity with WHMIS.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing facts, figures, explanations and procedures relating to course content.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper laboratory and field techniques effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with people of varied backgrounds and experience.
