JOB OVERVIEW:
The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for ensuring the hatchery standard of quality, welfare and consistency are met using industry best practices, data analysis and technology.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Processes
- Build standard Operating Practices (S.O.P) for all jobs, processes, and machines in the Hatchery
- Build and update Job descriptions for all positions in the Hatchery
- Work alongside with the health and safety team to implement and uphold safety standards
- Perform chick welfare checks to ensure proper procedures are followed, report to Production Supervisor and AGM on success of the procedures
- Weigh chicks and record vent temps according to the hatchery standards
- Perform egg breakouts to identify quality, fertility and weights in the egg room, at transfer and at hatch
- Maintain relationship and relevant communication with hatching egg producer
- Check for proper humidity levels in egg room and setters
- Follow sanitation procedures
- Gather and analyze hatchery data (i.e. embryo temps, egg pack quality check, fertility, residue breakouts, hatch progressions, rectal temp of chicks) and submit recommendations based on findings
- Report abnormalities to production supervisor and/or contact at hatching egg farm
- Perform clerical tasks (i.e. filing hatch reports, recording and maintain in a database) where needed
- Perform daily analysis on eggs that did not pass the heartbeat detector to gauge what day of incubation they died
- Create weekly reports on egg quality, and communicate results with hatchery manager
- Collect fluff samples and send to University of Guelph every 6 weeks
- Collect monthly (or as needed) samples (air plates and swabs) to test for bacteria create recommendations for recommended sanitation practices
- Assist with record keeping
- Perform daily setter and HatchCare checks and alert supervisor of abnormalities
- Communicate with all levels of management including veterinarians.
- Other duties as assigned by Hatchery Manager.
- Keep up to date on biosecurity, animal welfare standards and related processes in the hatchery to ensure audits will always be passed and hatchery standards are met.
- Maintain documents/licensing pertaining to Animal Care and Food Enhancement Program (FSEP) of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)
- Schedule welfare audits according to Canadian Hatcher Federation standards

$50,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
