Speech and Language Pathologist


Assignment: 1.0 FTE, Continuing, Commencing Immediately. We are willing to consider part-time or lower FTE assignments.

Your Work


Speech and language services are those services provided by speech and language pathologists within a multidisciplinary framework designed to support students whose education is adversely affected by oral communication challenges.


Speech and language services include a full range of K-7 supports encompassing prevention, identification and assessment, direct instruction for students (individually, in classroom settings, or in small groups as appropriate), consultation, collaboration with educators and support staff regarding the student's needs in the classroom and other school environments, in-service training, and information sharing with families and other agencies.

The Speech and Language Pathologist provides a coordinated and integrated array of support services that include:
Being an active member of the school-based team to assist with problem solving, and program planning;

Utilizing both formal and informal measures to evaluate a student's abilities relative to established norms, school expectations, the classroom environment and the student's needs.

The information obtained is related to other assessment/planning activities undertaken as part of the student's educational program within the district's response to intervention (RTI) framework;
Providing support(s) within the RTI tiered model while focusing efforts within the classroom environment and ensuring that all tier 2 work is generalized to the tier 1 environment;
Assisting educators, support staff, parents and specific students in understanding and co-delivering support for students with communication challenges;
Informing parents/guardians and educators of assessment results, involving them in developing plans for intervention, and assisting with monitoring and evaluating progress toward goals;
Providing timely and flexible SLP support and services as participating member of the School-Based Team

Your Education and Experience


Professional Certification:
College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of British Columbia (membership is mandatory)


Education and Training:
A Master's Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Pathology

Work experience in a school setting is preferred

Experience and/or training with augmentative communication and assistive technology.

Experience with French Immersion and Aboriginal populations preferred

Possess a vehicle and a valid BC Driver's License
