Description

The Corporation of the City of Cornwall is seeking a Dispatcher for our Infrastructure and Municipal Works department.

The Dispatcher is responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, recording calls and communicating with appropriate departments to assist and resolve concerns.

The Dispatcher is responsible in ensuring the proper execution of the following:

Receive incoming telephone calls and evaluate requests for Municipal Works & Infrastructure Services
Monitor, record and file weather conditions
Operate base station for radio communication request with Municipal Works & Infrastructure Departments
Notify appropriate personnel of emergency situations (e.g. watermain failures, sewer backups and oil spills)
Provide general information to the public regarding the activities conducted by the Municipal Works & Infrastructure Departments
Contact and record Ontario One Call utility locates and inform the Ministry of Labour of proposed and emergency excavations
Receive and sort daily mail and parcels for Municipal Works & Infrastructure Departments
Place orders for materials (salt, sand, gravel & concrete etc.) and equipment (backhoes & breakers, etc.) as required for Municipal Works & Infrastructure Departments
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications & Experience

Post secondary certificate/diploma in Business Administration or related field of study
Demonstrated relevant experience in database administration
Effective attention to detail, time management and judgement skills
Strong customer service and excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Bilingual in French and English required

The City of Cornwall offers a sector competitive wage starting at $26.82 per hour, 40 hours per week plus a comprehensive benefits package.
