Joining the Compliance Programs team at National Bank means actively participating in sound risk management and the development of the compliance programs, in particular the program to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.

As a Chief Advisor, you will mainly act as a compliance leader on a major technological project. You will also be called upon to provide support to compliance partners on various regulatory issues.


Your role

  • Act as a compliance leader on a largescale project that aims to put in place the technological foundations to simplify, standardize and accelerate the process of onboarding and reviewing client files.
  • Provide a variety of specialized strategic advice and recommend orientations to be taken in relation to the various regulatory needs targeted by the project.
  • Have a global view of the regulatory environment affecting the project, identify important compliance issues and make recommendations to support its continuous progress.
  • Lead and guide discussions with the various stakeholders of the activities affected by the project in the Compliance sector.
  • Work closely with the various teams to influence and align other initiatives that may have an impact on the project to optimize its delivery.
  • Provide positioning on strategic issues having an impact on the sector.


The Chief Advisor position reports to the Senior Manager, Compliance Programs in the Regulatory Compliance sector (2nd line of defense) which is part of the Risk Management business line.

The team of eleven professionals promotes collaboration with partners from different sectors and follow up on new trends to continually develop the various compliance programs.

The team has adopted the hybrid work model where work is divided between the office and remote work.

Competencies required

  • Bachelor's or master's degree related to the sector of activity and at least 8 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in risk management
  • Influential leadership with a developed political sense
  • Ability to work in a team with multidisciplinary experts
  • Demonstrated autonomy in a context of transformation
  • Ability to communicate effectively in French and English (for dealing with Englishspeaking partners outside Quebec)
Preferred competencies

  • Excellent sense of initiative and organizational skills
  • Good communication skills and ability to summarize at all levels of the organization
  • Strong analytical, writing and communication skills
  • Experience in complex projects and multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in regulatory compliance an asset
