Duties/Responsibilities

  • Enters artifact details into a collections management database. Files and scans documentation and related materials. Maintains records.
  • Assists to identify and research artifact, object composition, and material history issues to clarify collections database information, as required.
  • Assists to develop, maintain, and organize filing systems for museum program data and archives.
  • Works in a standard office environment. Occasionally travels to historic sites. Occasionally lifts file boxes weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • Performs related duties, as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of collections management procedures, museum registration methods, and basic artifact care and handling acquired through current enrollment in a related college/university program (e.g., museum studies).
  • Knowledge and ability to follow corporate polices and procedures.
  • Organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills to work independently; document artifacts appropriately/per standards; and organize program records logically.
  • Communication skills to exchange information with other staff and participate as an effective team member.
  • Ability to read collection database records. Ability to write/edit database entries and records descriptions using appropriate language, syntax, and spelling, and correct previous errors.
  • Computer skills using software such as Microsoft Office and collection and document management systems.
  • Ability to travel within Waterloo Region.
  • Ability to support and demonstrate the Region's values.

- secondary level, though not full-time students, are eligible for related student employment opportunities, where an appropriate match exists i.e. full-time employee in Community Services taking part-time courses to become a caseworker is eligible for a summer student caseworker position.
