Are you a motivated event coordinator with good customer service skills? Are you ready to put your event planning skills to the test in order to help generate income for a not-for-profit that serves the Indigenous population in Ottawa? If so, _this opportunity is for you_


The Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health is an award-winning Health Access Centre that provides holistic health services to First Nation, Inuit, and Métis people living in Ottawa - one of the fastest-growing and diverse urban Indigenous communities in Canada.

Wabano is a fast-paced, client-oriented organization that models the Indigenous values of balance, respect, and community interdependence.


Our beautiful and vibrant Cultural Gathering Space is a state-of-the-art event rental hall offering rooms and catering options for meetings, conferences, galas, weddings, concerts, and private parties.


Wabano is looking for a full-time Event Coordinator (37.5 hours per week) to help generate and organize space rentals and events at the Centre.

Responsibilities:

Provide high-quality customer experience by supporting customers throughout their entire pre to post event experience, including (but not limited) to the following:

  • Determine purpose and scope of event with client and develop a client contract;
  • Determine, get approval and secure all needed human resources for the event;
  • Lead and take part in set up and take down of the event;
  • Have contingency plan in place and problem issues as they arise;
  • Ensure all client needs and requests continue to be met throughout the process;
  • Provide leadership and direction to all contractors, staff and volunteers during the events;
  • Ensure the client has a contact during the event;
  • Uphold all health and safety regulations;
  • Review event with client to receive feedback and close file;
  • Issue invoice to client and collect payment, and then provide all financial details to Wabano finance office to be reconciled;
  • Ensure payment of all contractors and additional staff;
  • Support the Events team in the design and implementation of internal events.

Sales and Promotion

  • Maintain current client relationships to create return business;
  • In partnership with events team, create and implement sales/marketing plan to recruit new clientele;
  • Maintain event management database in designated software;
  • Review and update PR kits and information;
  • Maintain website portal for event rentals;
  • Be a leader in ensuring that annual targets are met.
  • Post secondary degree in event planning or related field;
  • At least one year of industry experience event planning for large events (200+ people);
  • Superior customer service skills, including exceptional communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends;
  • Ability to work effectively on a team to put on a seamless event;
  • Experience in sales and marketing would be considered a strong asset;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and work accurately under deadlines.
  • Must be able to take direction and adapt to changing priorities;
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and values;
  • Enthusiastic attitude with the ability to make a strong contribution to the company culture.

Salary Range:

$50,000-$55,000 per year plus benefits
