***: To provide comprehensive communication and swallowing assessment, treatment and consultation services within the assigned program (s). All duties are performed in accordance with the Mission and Values of Unity Health Toronto.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide direct communication and swallowing assessment services for referred patients, in accordance with professional practice standards;
  • Develop communication and swallowing treatment plans based on assessment results, communicate such to the interdisciplinary teams, patient (as appropriate), family and relevant other internal and external contacts;
Provide communication and swallowing treatment to patients, utilizing a variety of treatment modalities;

  • Participate in interdisciplinary patient care planning, along the continuum of intake/admission to discharge;
  • Facilitate patient access to external and/or consulting videoflouroscopic, audio logical and hearing aid services;
  • Remain current in professional practice areas through readings, attendance at internal and external professional development events, and through consultation with fellow speech/language pathologists;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of educational initiatives for patients, families, staff, volunteers, students and other relevant community organizations;
  • Participate in relevant research initiatives;
  • Participate in the ongoing evaluation of facility wide speech/language pathology services.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:


  • Master's Degree in Communication Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology from a recognized university and membership, in good standing, with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario are required. Membership with the Ontario Association of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists is an asset;
  • Current certification or willingness to obtain Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImp) training;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of adult communication and swallowing and experience in the assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders;
  • Previous experience in a health care environment, preferably with the target population of the program(s) served;
  • Ability to work cooperatively within an interdisciplinary environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • An openness to share and receive information;
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development;
  • Very good attendance;
  • Good performance record.
