We are recruiting for a Maintenance Manager to manage the facility and machinery maintenance requirements for BWXT Canada in Cambridge, ON.


JOB PURPOSE:


This position is responsible for managing the facility and machinery maintenance requirements for BWXT Canada's Cambridge manufacturing operation, which consists of approximately 270,000 sq.

ft. of manufacturing and 70,000 sq. ft. of office space.

Utilizing and coordinating with both internal resources and third-party contractors, develop solutions to solve day-to-day problems or breakdowns, inherent with heavy manufacturing, to prevent or minimize production down time.

This position reports to the Vice President, Components. Maintenance Technicians (Electricians and Millwrights), across 3 shifts, and Yard Material Handlers, report directly to this position.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, organizes, schedules and directs the predictive / preventative maintenance program of the manufacturing facilities and equipment as well as overseeing the installation of new capital equipment or building expansion.
  • Work with Operations management to support plans and programs that meet present and anticipated space and facility requirements.
  • Monitor and inspect all building and equipment to ensure that utility systems are fully operational, code compliant and that predictive/preventative maintenance schedules are being followed.
  • Ensures maintenance personnel are trained to company Safety and Operating procedures and put "Safety First" into practice, ensuring personnel are continuously alert when servicing manufacturing equipment.
  • Preserves the overall cost of maintaining the manufacturing facility in terms of value of equipment maintained, goods produced, and percent of operation time available.
  • Plans and schedules alteration and new installations of equipment/machines.
  • Uses continuous improvement tools/techniques to maximize operational effectiveness.
  • Reports on asset, performance, inspection, calibration and maintenance activities.
  • Analyzes and recommends new tooling and equipment products as appropriate to improve functionality and cost containment.
  • Provides direction to our maintenance technicians (millwrights and electricians) and material handlers on daily work priorities.
  • Selects and manages 3rd party maintenance contractors to augment inhouse maintenance technicians; e.g. HVAC, plumbing, roofing, cranes and general construction contractors.
  • Establishes annual supply contracts (purchase orders) with third party contractors.
  • Maintains inventory of machine spare parts.
  • Manages the preventative maintenance program for all machinery and equipment ensuring that production is maintained, breakdowns are minimized and that maintenance records are maintained in the database (production equipment includes several large horizontal milling machines, robot blast and weld centers, concrete batch plant, stress relieve furnace, forming machines and bridge cranes).
  • Plans and executes annual maintenance shut down activities utilizing both internal resources and third party contractors.
  • Preparation and management of annual department expense budgets.
  • Assesses and recommends capital investments incorporated into the 3year capital improvement forecast.
  • Preparation and submission of business plan justification for capital equipment expenditures.
  • Responds to afterhours emergencies and breakdowns.
  • Conducts contractor safety orientations and reviews scope of work.
  • Works to several Quality Standards; ASME, ISO 9000, Z299.1 and N stamp.
  • Responsible for the calibration of electrical equipment and milling machines.
  • Ensures that staff completes safety actions identified during management walkdowns, JHSC inspections and safety investigations.
  • Conducts performance reviews for nonunionized staff.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 6 to 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Mechanical and electrical comprehension is essential.
  • Heavy manufacturing or construction industry experience is preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience along with strong relationship building and effective team leadership abilities.
  • Proven ability to develop, lead and motivate teams to achieve operational excellence.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem solving and decision making skills with knowledge of continuous improvement tools/techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) as well as strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
