Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) program

About the NGG program:


The
Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) program is funded by the ministry and supports new Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses who are within 12 months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) by providing them with a temporary full-time employment opportunity above employers' existing staffing complement to improve their transition into practice, and into full-time employment.


About the VHA programs:


The
Adult Visiting program provides specialized care services to individuals aged 18 and above who require complex care and specialized nursing skills within a home setting.

Referrals to this program are facilitated through HCCSS, and our nursing staff operates within the Durham, Toronto Central, and Central regions of the Greater Toronto Area.

As part of this visiting nurse opportunity, travel and driving are essential components of the role.

The
Palliative Care program delivers home nursing services to end-of-life care individuals.

Our nurses are committed to enhancing the quality of care for palliative clients, with a focus on effective symptom and pain management to improve their overall quality of life.

Our nursing services extend to the Durham, Scarborough, Central, and Toronto Central areas. As part of this visiting nurse opportunity, travel and driving are essential components of the role.


Eligibility for New Nurses for the NGG Program:

Participation in the NGG program is open to nurses within 12 months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

Canadian-educated nurses who:


  • Graduated with a baccalaureate degree in nursing or a diploma from a practical nursing program in Canada;
  • Have not been employed as a nurse in Ontario in the six months prior to participating in the NGG program;
  • Match with an employer on the NGG online portal within 12 months of registering with the CNO; and
  • Commit to accepting fulltime employment or the equivalent of fulltime hours with their NGG employer after completing the NGG program transition into the practice period.

Internationally educated nurses (IENs) who:


  • Completed their nursing education outside of Canada;
  • Have not been employed as a nurse in Ontario in the six months prior to participating in the NGG program;
  • Match with an employer on the NGG online portal within 12 months of registering with the CNO; and
  • Commit to accepting fulltime employment or the equivalent of fulltime hours with their NGG employer after completing the NGG program transition into the practice period.

Required Qualifications:


  • Membership with RNAO/ WeRPN
  • Current First Aid/ CPR/ BCLS Certification
  • Successful completion of the Physical Readiness Test (PRT) to ensure safe work practices are followed (transfers, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling).
  • A valid Ontario driver's license (G License) and a reliable vehicle for traveling are required for some VHA programs.
