Reporting to the Senior Operating Officer, the Site Shift Manager provides effective interdisciplinary operational management for all patient care units.

The Site Shift Manager is the sole onsite leader during non-regular business hours and has a site-wide purview.

Through clinical leadership, mentoring, coaching and performance management of staff, promotes and models leadership competencies and ensures a high quality of patient care.

The Site Shift Manager provides management for in-scope staff and provides resource management for the site to ensure efficient utilization of staff and for bed allocation.

The Site Shift Manager is a resource and support for staff on site and has the authority to mitigate any patient or staff concerns related to the use of resources.

The Site Shift Manager will be the initial point of contact for the Manager On-call, Acute Divisional and SLT on call and for Zone leadership in the event of an urgent issue for immediate assessment and coordination of the issue (eg., MCI, fire, flood, other threats).

The Site Shift Manager would be the primary contact for AHNs or charge nurses across the Misericordia.

The Site Shift Manager is responsible for coordinating the resolution of issues across the site and has the decision-making authority to make the appropriate decisions required to resolve them.

The role works with admitting, ER, bed coordinators, staffing office and charge nurses to assist and lead the coordination of patient flow and ensure bed allocation and patient movement guidelines are followed at the Misericordia.

The role has the authority to evaluate site capacity, close beds, and reallocate staff in areas to ensure optimal function and capacity.

The incumbent has the authority to approve overtime and increase staffing but does not participate in regular staffing activities at the site.

This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:

Post-secondary Degree in Nursing or other health related discipline. Current membership with a regulated healthcare professional body.

Minimum of 5 years' experience in a complex acute care hospital setting with a minimum of three years leadership experience.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Level C is required. Good communication skills and ability to use technological software & Microsoft Office suite are required. Proven record of independently managing teams, including making difficult decisions. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills to help motivate a team are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Public Health Leadership or Business is preferred. Experience at the GN/MCH in ED and in Bed Management/Allocation would be an asset.
