The Role:


Position Status:
Full Time (40 hours/week), Temporary Summer (May/June - August)

Rupertsland Institute (RLI) is an affiliate of the Métis Nation of Alberta and has a triple mandate in education, training, and research.

With a decentralized network of 10 METI-Service Centres, a Corporate Head Office in Edmonton, and two mobile service units; RLI designs and delivers training and education services to more than 140,000 Alberta Métis.

The Opportunity

To Fit the Role:


Métis Education French Translation Support Summer Intern

Fluency in the French language is required.

  • Complete the Métis Foundational Knowledge Themes Training.
  • Translation of existing RLI Métis education resources into French language.
  • Support the development of new RLI Métis education resources in the French language.
  • Review and support updates to the Michif language courses.
  • Support the review and development of customizing technology required to weave Métis ways of knowing within various digital platforms.
  • Support the organization of Métis Education Resources.
  • Attend conferences and events to share resources about Rupertsland Institute where required.
  • Other duties as required.

Métis Education Summer Intern

  • Complete the Métis Foundational Knowledge Themes Training.
  • Review, update, and cocreate, with support, Michif learning resources to be in alignment with Métis education resources and RLI standards of excellence.
  • Review and support updates to the Michif language courses.
  • Support the review and development of customizing technology required to weave Métis ways of knowing within various digital platforms.
  • Support organization and upkeep of both new and existing Métis Education Resources
  • Attend conferences and events to help share resources about Rupertsland Institute where required.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications (both positions):

We are looking for creative, collaborative individuals to join our team. This position requires a proven level of organization and judgment to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives. Commitment to teamwork is required to connect with colleagues in an everyday working environment.
years professional work experience is an asset. School or volunteer experience is considered valid experience.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Métis culture, people, and values. Experience with Métis culture and community are an asset.
  • Demonstrated capacity working in/with Métis and other Indigenous communities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity. with the ability to build relationships with others.
  • Experience and ability in working both independently and collaboratively as a team player.
  • Open to learning and participation in a collaborative feedback process in resource development.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confidence navigating technology and motivation to learn how to navigate new platforms with ease.
  • Demonstrated interest and competency with online design programs such as Google Slides, Canva, etc.

Other Requirements (both positions):


  • Due to funding requirements, this position is open to Métis students only. This would include Citizens of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.
  • Ability to work Monday
  • Friday, 8:30 AM 4:30 PM from May/June
  • August.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to support events. This may include some travel.
