) Energy Specialist. This position supports the reduction of BCIT's ecological footprint. With a focus on energy and greenhouse gas emissions, this position is responsible for the energy improvement assessments, the execution of the delivery of energy conservation benefits and in assisting with the successful completion of BC Hydro's Strategic Energy Management Plan.

This position also fulfills the following primary objectives:

  • Increase participation in FortisBC's Demand Side Management programs
  • Develop and assist with execution of other projects that result in natural gas savings
  • Work with the Energy Manager on projects that result in both natural gas and electric energy savings.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Works collaboratively with management, faculty and staff and other Institute departments on a variety of energy conservation initiatives including an integrated model of sustainability.
  • Assists in the completion of BC Hydro's

Strategic Energy Management Plan:
Focus on Gas.

  • Advises the Energy Manager, facilities and operations staff of all energy efficiency and conservation incentives, as well as education programs from FortisBC.
  • Ensures Energy Team is on track to meet KPIs as determined by FortisBC and the Energy Manager.
  • Conducts an inventory of natural gas fired equipment to determine eligible projects for FortisBC incentives.
  • Analyzes and monitors building automation system, identifies and helps implement energy efficient measures.
  • Applies for and utilizes all applicable BC Hydro and FortisBC energy efficiency and conservation incentives and education programs.
  • Explores, analyzes, develops, and presents business cases for natural gas related projects.
  • Prepares a variety of financial analyses in support of business cases.
  • Researches and proposes actions to effectively manage energy use as part of daytoday activities at the Institute.
  • Manages project costs by reviewing and confirming completed project charges, authorizing payment within authorization limits and preparing change orders' to scope. Monitors costs through completing and preparing reports and cost analyses.
  • Ensures all invoicing to BC Hydro and FortisBC are processed according to agreements.
  • Manages projects by maintaining project schedule, reporting on and monitoring project progress. Continuously provides updates to and engages stakeholders.
  • Communicates with individuals from a variety of departments within BCIT and external contractors, including working with difficult or upset customers, describing problems and explaining complex projects to ensure stakeholder buyin.
  • Collaborates with and recommends a course of action on project activities with customer group, utilities, and governmental agencies; ensures the work schedule has minimum disruption to other Institute activities.
  • Executes project closeout, including arranging for final clean up, testing and commissioning, final inspection, and approvals, and ensuring timely correction of deficiencies. Compiles operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals and asbuilt drawings.
  • Coordinates and presents employee awareness training.
  • Prepares and submits a quarterly report to FortisBC outlining all current and planned projects that will result in natural gas savings.
  • Audits and identifies opportunities for energy demand reduction in existing buildings.
  • Tracks progress on multiple initiatives and projects on behalf of the Energy Team.
  • Provides analysis, measurement and verification on energy savings derived from Energy Team projects. Conducts data analysis, compiling reports, presenting findings, and providing recommendations for future consideration.
  • Participates in communitybased social marketing campaigns.
  • Represents the Energy Manager on various committees.
  • Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).
  • Undertakes related duties as assigned consistent with the job grade for this position.

Education:


  • A minimum 4year degree in the relevant field of study such as; a Bachelor of Engineering, Architecture or Urban Planning, etc.
  • Ability to register as an E.I.T. or P.Eng. with EGBC.

  • Two years of general experience plus four years relevant energy efficiency experience such as: energy efficient technologies, mechanical design, lighting design, energy audit or in a project ma
