Reports to:
Chief Engineer


Position Purpose:


Live the Sheraton Brand - The Shift Maintenance position will provide support to the day-to-day and maintenance operations of the Hotel.

This position will work to meet and exceed our guests and interdepartmental associates' expectations, while adhering to Marriott standards.

The Shift Maintenance position is expected to lead and conduct daily duties in a 'Life is better when shared' way while embracing the Sheraton spirit of our core values of a 'Warm, Connected, Community'.


Authority:


Day-to-Day Operations

  • Respond to maintenance calls in a courteous, professional and timely manner, liaising with other operational departments as required.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs including painting, dry walling, tiling, carpentry, caulking, and other general contractor duties.
  • Responsible for repairing and maintaining all building components and operations systems including the hotel swimming pool, plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems to ensure excellent working order.
  • Perform preventative maintenance assignments as required.
  • Maintaining accurate log and maintenance records and monitoring stock inventory.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of an integrity of mechanical areas, shop and tools.
  • Maintaining fire equipment and systems and handling specific fire alarm response duties.
  • Promote and maintain a safe and healthy work environment, ensuring adherence to guidelines and legislation outlined in the occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • All other duties as assigned by Management.

  • Under the OHSA, Shift Maintenance Associates are required to ensure that:
  • Employees work in the manner and with the protective devices, measure and procedures required.
  • Employees use or wear the equipment, PPE or clothing required by the Sheraton Ottawa Hotel.
  • Employees are advised of the existence of any potential or actual danger to their well being of which the supervisor is aware.
  • Where prescribed, employees are provided with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for their protection.
  • Every reasonable precaution is taken for the protection of the employee and guest.


On a daily basis, Shift Maintenance Associates are to reinforce and demonstrate a positive 'Health & Safety' attitude and working climate.

Shift Maintenance Associates are expected to report, investigate, and properly document all incidents and injuries to employees and guests, as well as any property damage or loss of process as a result of the incident.


Physical Demands for this position:


  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and be able to answer the phone continuously.
  • Ability to work flexible hours due to business demands.
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Most work tasks are performed indoors.
  • Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems.
  • Must be able to stand and exert wellpaced mobility for up to 8 hours in length.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • All lifting will be within reason. The employer will make every effort to ensure that the associate is protected from injury (ex. PPE).
  • Must be able to exert wellpaced ability in limited space.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill required tasks.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment

Experience and Requirements:

High school or equivalent education required.

  • Must have minimum of three years handson experience working on minor electrical, painting, plumbing and a/c repairs.
  • Previous hotel experience would be considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism would be considered an asset.

Job Types:
Full-time, Part-time

Part-time hours: 40 per week


Salary:
$33.20 per hour


Flexible Language Requirement:

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift

  • General maintenance: 1 year (preferred)
