South Vancouver Neighbourhood House (SVNH) is located on the unceded, occupied, ancestral and traditional
homelands of the xwməθkwəyə̓m (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səlílw̓ ətaʔ/Selilwitulh

Job Overview
South Vancouver Neighbourhood House (SVNH) is seeking a
Community Navigator, Reframing South Vancouver

Initiative to support the team at SVNH to engage with residents in underserved parts of the region in new and
unique ways. South Vancouver (SV) is comprised of three neighbourhoods - Killarney, Victoria-Fraserview, Sunset
- and is a diverse multicultural and multilingual area of Vancouver. SV is comprised of 80% visible minorities, 56%
newcomers, and over 11% of the population with no English language knowledge. The languages of the racialized
and underrepresented population in South Vancouver area include, but are not limited to, Arabic, Cantonese,
Mandarin, Punjabi, Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese. SV is also underserved in terms of social infrastructure and
community assets. Transportation is limited and social isolation is a significant concern. This position will work with
the Director, Neighbourhood Equity, to support the teams across SVNH to create new ways for currently
disconnected residents across SV to engage, participate, and increase their voice and agency.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify events that are happening in the neighbourhood; set up information booths, deliver information
sessions to showcase SVNH, Reframing South Vancouver, and Community Support, Multiculturalism, and
Anti-Racism Initiatives (CSMARI);

  • Increase resident awareness, involvement, and advocacy in urban planning processes that impact

- the neighbourhood;
  • Assist in the development of campaign materials (flyers, google/Facebook ad, Instagram, TikTok) and
survey questions in the languages of the underrepresented populations in SV (e.g. Cantonese, Mandarin,
Punjabi, Tagalog, Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, etc.);

  • Organize outreach events, forums, townhall meetings and multicultural celebrations.
  • Facilitate dialogues and community engagement processes that will deepen the shared understanding of
- the issues at hand;
  • Engage with diverse communities, Indigenous leaders, residents, racialized and underrepresented SV

- neighbours;
  • Work alongside the Director and team in tracking and reviewing engagement analytics, including social
marketing strategy;

  • Assist in the recruitment, orientation and supervision of volunteers, practicum students and
Neighbourhood Advisory Committee (NAC) Members;

  • Conduct training sessions for residents to participate in civic processes and have their voices heard by
stakeholders and decision makers at all levels of government;

  • Engage in evaluation activities to extract testimonials, impact metrics and lessons learned to inform
- engagement strategies, and to strengthen organizational processes/content;
  • Collate asset mapping documents and share them with stakeholders and decision makers;
  • Identify hubs for community engagement activities and post flyers (e.g. neighbourhood stores and
restaurants, churches, thrift stores, BC Housing, etc.).


Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in relevant discipline and combined with 12 years of work experience in
- community development and engagement;
  • Familiarity and comfort with communitybased development practices;
  • Excellent writing skills, ability to produce anecdotal/activity reports and manage collected data;
  • Excellent communication skills; be fluent (written and verbal) in English and Tagalog;
  • Strong abilities to facilitate neighbourhood asset mapping, engage diverse community members and

- synthesize their feedback;
  • Excellent computer skills and experience in managing and creating digital content for social media;
  • An adaptable problem solver, comfortable fostering a collaborative environment among program teams
and stakeholders;

  • Knowledge of antioppression, antiracism, systems change and strengthsbased approaches.

Employment Terms

  • Start date: April 2; 202
  • Pay rate: $ per hour depending on experience.
  • Schedule: 35 hours per week; Monday to Friday with occasional weeknight and weekend
