Band 10, $118,003 - $144,504

Who We Are:

The Public Health Intelligence division has a central role in monitoring and reporting on population health issues, identifying health disparities and emerging threats, conducting research, and advancing applied science and public health practice within the health department.

Our goal is for the section's programs and services to be effective, evidence-informed and in accordance with Peel Public Health's strategic plan.

The Population Health Assessment section applies epidemiologic and statistical methods to help monitor the health status of Peel residents.

We play a major role in assessing and supporting strategic and program priorities for Peel Health and delivery of the Ministry of Health's Ontario Public Health Standards related to the 'Foundational Standard and Protocol', including population health assessment and health equity.

What

You Will Do In This Role:
_**- Provide leadership to the Population Health Assessment Section, which is responsible for compilation, verification and reporting of health status data and identifying health disparities by:

  • play a lead role in the development, implementation, and evaluation of information collection and reporting methods-
  • consulting with staff regarding data/health information, surveys and research-
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • Prepare and monitor work plans and budget for the Population Health Assessment Section and monitor progress and expenditures
  • Ensure access to appropriate software for analytical work; purchase and maintain as necessary
  • Ensure that appropriate skills (e.g., statistical methods, survey research, knowledge translation) for each member of the team are acquired and maintained; arrange training, including customized workshops, as necessary
  • Supervise staff in Population Health Assessment Section, directly or through Supervisor. Supervise students and staff on contract
  • Engage with Public Health leadership to ensure that the departmental strategies, mandates, and programs are met
  • Act as liaison person and representative for Peel Public Health on matters involving data, health information and epidemiology with external organizations (e.g. Ministry of Health, Statistics Canada, APHEO) and within the Region of Peel (e.g. Peel Data Centre, Human Services, Strategic Policy and Performance)
  • Provide leadership for the development of tools and training related to Public Health Practice specifically use of data
  • Advise the Director, Public Health Intelligence on issues related to public health practice involving data, health information and epidemiologic methods, statistics and analysis
  • Liaise with data providers and researchers (e.g. Statistics Canada, MOH, ICES)

_ Educational Background/ Must Haves/

Bonafide Job Requirements:
_


  • Expert knowledge of analytical, statistical and epidemiological methods normally acquired by a M.Sc. M.H.Sc. or MPH in epidemiology or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered
  • 5 years of progressive Management experience
  • Thorough knowledge of epidemiological study design and community health research

Skills/Abilities:


  • Working knowledge and strong understanding of Public Health and Community Health issues
  • Ability to synthesize, evaluate and integrate health/epidemiology information from multiple sources to provide policy formulation recommendations
  • Proven leader with ability to motivate staff to produce effective results
  • Polished communication, interpersonal, project management and report writing skills
