SOAR Community Services is a not-for-profit organization offering help to the people in Brantford, Brant, and Haldimand for over 50 years. Today, we provide our community members with support in the areas of Employment, Housing, Justice, and Addictions and Mental Health.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Board of Directors is responsible for the governance and financial accountability of SOAR Community Services.


Term:
Up to 3 Years with re-election potential of one additional 3-Year Term (6 year maximum)


Annual Commitment:

Regularly attend Board (up to 3 hours per month), ad-hoc Committee meetings (up to 2 hours per month) and an Annual General Meeting
.



Responsibilities:


  • Provide strategic leadership, including fiduciary responsibility, embodying SOAR's mission, vision, and values. Develop, review, and approve the mission, values, and strategic directions in collaboration with staff, clients, and community stakeholders.
  • Fulfill governance responsibilities ensuring compliance with applicable laws and governance policies, procedures, and bylaws.
  • Protect SOAR's business interests, including corporate opportunities, assets, and confidential information. Review bylaws, and annual work plans. Approve financial statements, operating budgets, and extraordinary expenditures.
  • Conduct Board business effectively and efficiently. Hold overall accountability in a manner that is transparent and seen to be fair and would bear close public scrutiny.
  • Keep informed about matters relating to SOAR, the community, and the broader social and health systems.
  • Participate in training, including governance/fiduciary roles, responsibilities, liabilities, and conflicts of interest.
  • Actively support a culture of diversity and inclusion.
  • Provide insight to other team members from a peer perspective, while working collaboratively with them.
  • Maintain effective professional boundaries with peers.
