Job Summary


The role of Manager, Global Recruitment leads the implementation of the team's annual cycle of in-person, in-market recruitment activities and advising services in support of the International Student Initiative's enterprise-wide mandate to meet the Faculties' international enrolment targets in undergraduate programs as well as in select other programs.

The Manager initiates and cultivates long-term relationships with key feeder schools and organizations in all regions, identifies new opportunities for recruitment, and initiates contact with new schools and potential new sources of qualified prospective students globally, for all UBC programs seeking to enroll undergraduate international students.

The Manager assesses strengths and weaknesses of existing recruitment operations and recommends changes in the recruiting program or processes that will maximize yield and expand UBC's presence and provides operational leadership to a diverse, inclusive and high performance, results-oriented recruitment team.

Organizational Status


The Manager, Global Recruitment reports to the Director of Global Recruitment and serves as a member of the ISI's Extended Leadership Team.

The Manager is a key participant in implementing ISI's strategy to fulfill the unit's mandate to meet the Faculties' international enrolment targets in undergraduate programs on both of UBC's campuses as well as in select other programs that have been identified as strategic initiatives for the University.


In this capacity:

  • The Manager provides operational guidance and direction to the recruiters assigned to the global recruitment team, and to the contractors (basecamp recruiters) working on behalf of the ISI and UBC in posts abroad.
  • The Manager regularly interacts with UBC's Admissions officers evaluating students for admission, as well as with other members of Enrolment Services to ensure the particular needs and concerns of these students are considered and addressed as appropriate.
  • The Manager represents the global recruitment team on crossunit committees and working groups.
  • The Manager works with the international student academic advisors in the Faculties and individual faculty members to operationalize their participation in select recruitment and yield activities globally. Liaises as well as with international student advisors and leaders in other units to ensure crossunit efforts are synchronized to support the smooth transition of newly admitted ISI students to UBC.
Work Performed


  • Manages and implements the international recruiting/advising operations of the global recruiting team.
a. The Manager contributes to developing the strategic plan for in-person, in-market recruitment.

The Manager identifies new opportunities for expanding recruitment in particular jurisdictions and globally as well as addresses challenges to recruiting qualified students who could be top prospects for UBC.

The Manager provides operational oversight for a wide range of recruitment activities taking place globally ensuring priority markets are addressed in accordance with the strategic plan, cultivating cross-team consistency and coherence in the initiating, planning and implementation of activities, monitoring for effectiveness, analyzing for achievement of results, and reporting to the Director on same.

d.

Develops new and more effective business processes to support efficient planning and successful implementation of recruiting and advising services, working proficiently with key tools such as the client relationship management systems to ensure cross-team collaboration for event and project management, management of leads, and general information sharing and records management.
