About the Organization:


Renfrew Collingwood Senior's Society provides in-person therapeutic exercise and recreation activities designed to improve the health and well-being of seniors who are living with chronic physical, mental or emotional challenges.


RCSS strives to meet the needs and interests of seniors and at the same time provide support, respite and education to their informal care givers at two sites in the East Vancouver.

As such, we play a key role in allowing our participants to remain living in the community as long as possible by providing social connections and purposeful activities in a safe and welcoming environment.


Job Summary:

Monday to Friday - 8:30AM - 4:00PM

Extended Health Care benefits available after sufficient hours have been accumulated.

Develops a monthly menu, prepares, and serves meals according to schedule.

Performs administrative duties such as estimating food and supply requirements based on menus and ensures inventory levels are adequate to meet the agreed upon menu.

Shops for supplies and places purchase orders with external suppliers. Monitors kitchen expenditures to ensure budget is maintained and completes inventory checklists. Monitors equipment to ensure optimum, safe performance levels.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Plans and develops monthly menus including special diets such as diabetic, lactose intolerant, and vegetarian.
  • Prepares muffins for morning coffee and meals with desserts for 25-35 seniors per day, including frozen meals for takeout.
  • Shops for food items and monitors kitchen expenditures to ensure budget is maintained.
  • Performs administrative duties such as estimating food and supply requirements based on menus and minimum/maximum inventory levels, placing purchase orders with external suppliers, receiving supplies, checking invoices against orders and goods received, storing, and distributing supplies, and contacting suppliers to obtain and provide information to investigate invoice anomalies and damaged shipments.
  • Performs inventory control duties such as storing and rotating food and supplies and keeping a running inventory and monitoring system.
  • Performs cleaning duties in kitchen and dining area such as cleaning food preparation equipment, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning sinks and counters, and storage areas such as walls, ovens, and freezers, and removing garbage, compost, and recycling. Washes tablecloths daily and other laundry weekly.
  • Washes, scrubs, and rinses pots, pans, dishes, and utensils by hand and dishwasher.
  • Monitors functioning of equipment, and reports malfunctions and maintenance and repair requirements to Executive Director.
  • Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as recipes and records of client preferences, allergies, and special dietary needs.
  • Attends staff meetings, in-service sessions, and staff development.
  • Prepares food for special events, care packages to seniors and ensures take out meals are frozen and ready for purchase.
  • Assists on outings as deemed necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


Education, Training and Experience

  • Grade 1
  • Professional Cook Training Certificate
  • Level 2 Culinary Arts
  • Certificates in First Aid and Food Safe (every five years)
  • Recent, related experience of three years
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to prepare well balanced meals and desserts for regular and special diets
  • Ability to operate related equipment
  • Ability to organize and prioritize
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position

  • Cooking: 1 year (preferred)

Language:

Licence/Certification:

  • Food Handler Certification (preferred)
  • Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (preferred)
