The Position and our Department
Bishop's University is a public and secular institution offering undergraduate and graduate courses.

Founded in 2009, the Department of Sports Studies is one of the fastest-growing departments at Bishop's, with an undergraduate student body of 250 Majors and 30 Minors spread across three concentrations: Athletic Development, Business and Society, and Health and Exercise.

In addition, the Department recently instituted an Honours program to offer interested students a comprehensive introduction to the research process by involving them in all the steps of a research project under the supervision of faculty members.

The Department has four tenure-stream faculty members and several contract faculty members, and it operates a Sports Studies Collaboratory research space in the Bishop's University Sports Centre (i.e., Sports Laboratory).

Our class size ranges from 10 to 130 students, thus making our academic spaces ideal to train the next generation of leaders in sport in Canada.

Our Setting

Bishop's itself and Estrie, or the Eastern Townships region of Québec, are remarkable places to study and teach about sport.

With world-class Nordic skiing trails and a golf course on campus, a robust Varsity and Club Athletics Department, and a deep cultural appreciation for outdoor recreation and lifestyle sports, Sports Studies is embedded in and representative of the institution and the region.

Located on a historic, tree-lined campus, Bishop's has 2800 full-time students and prides itself on teaching excellence while maintaining a strong research profile.

The city of Sherbrooke has a rich mix of languages and cultures and a vibrant community life. In particular, the borough of Lennoxville, where Bishop's is located, has a thriving anglophone community.

The members of our Department acknowledge the complexities of the University being located on unceded Indigenous land and recognize the efforts we must all make in pursuit of reconciliation and decolonization.
