General Accountability:


  • The Supervisor, Operational Safety & Planning is responsible for planning, coordinating, scheduling, and tracking maintenance and construction activities for the Infrastructure and Engineering (I&E) Group. This involves the effective management of resource constraints, stakeholder needs, and budgetary restrictions in conjunction with TTC policies, corporate goals, and safety regulations.

Key Job Functions:


  • Oversee maintenance and construction activities for the I&E Group;
  • Ensure that coordination of resources, materials, equipment is scheduled in advance in order to maximize the effectiveness of the workforce;
  • Adjust work schedules to reflect changing priorities and relocate resources to optimize work activities to ensure continuous work in the event of delays;
  • Managing resource interdependencies, competing stakeholder needs, and associated constraints;
  • Working closely with adjacent departments to optimise nonrevenue service timeframes allotted to infrastructure maintenance and repair work;
  • Recommend improvements to Infrastructure and Engineering maintenance functions for short/long term objectives;
  • Researching infrastructure maintenance and repair work activities and identifying constraints;
  • Developing and implementing data acquisition and analysis procedures;
  • Assisting in the development of departmental information systems;
  • Compiling performance statistics and recommending improvements to procedures and work methods;
  • Supervise the work of direct reports and provide leadership to staff ;
  • Supporting the Coordination of major work events (i.e. subway closures)with TTC Divisions and respective surface level resources;
  • Assessing newly introduced policies, programs, and systems;
  • Maintaining a daily log of project activities;
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations to improve preventative and corrective maintenance functions within I&E;
  • Represent the Operational & Safety Planning Department at meetings with contractors, and other TTC departments on matters pertaining to production scheduling, equipment and safety;
  • Keep Senior I&E staff members informed of ongoing activities or unusual problems;
  • Performs other duties as assigned;
  • Participate in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program;

Education and Experience:


  • Completion of a postsecondary college diploma or university degree (civil engineering/civil technology) in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Preferably working in a unionized environment in the field of rail/track maintenance/construction/rehabilitation/ investigation.

Additional Requirements:


  • Strong planning and project management skills;
  • Strong knowledge of railway/subway operations specific to infrastructure maintenance and repair;
  • Must exercise tact and diplomacy when providing direction and support;
  • Ability to coordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives
  • Experience working on complex projects
  • Knowledge of construction, maintenance and rehabilitation projects carried out at subway and surface locations within the I&E Group;
  • Sound judgement, supervisory, administrative, problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, math
