JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties:


  • Manages a team of safety professionals; sets and manages performance expectations and
- supports ongoing development of staff to maintain appropriate levels of expertise and
- competency.
  • Consults with key client groups (Line Field Operations (LFO) and Stations Field Operations
(SFO)) to develop relationships as well as new and value-added safety services and assurance
- activities.
  • Develops and executes plans to manage Field Safety Assurance (FSA) support for LFO and
SFO, setting scope, budget, schedules and timelines.- Reviews safety audits and observations as well as supporting incident management process and

corrective actions to mitigate risks and to ensure that safe work continues.- Develops staffing strategies to support operational groups across

line managers; allocates staff and acquires external resources if/as required.- Assists with managing the financial viability of the department, gives input and influences the

overall business plan.- Keeps current on developments in the safety and regulatory field; may attend seminars and

conferences in field of expertise.- Works within the safety group to establish safety standards, at times with no precedents and

existing procedures to resolve the problem.- Gives input to policies and systems to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in delivering safety

support.

  • Leads and directs FSA direct reports on ongoing operational work as well as safety related
initiatives.- Resolves moderately complex problems related to safety, manages budget and coordinates and

manages staffing resources.- Responsible for forecasting and planning safety resources to support Operations and FSA

across BC Hydro in the NI/SI.- Assigns tasks and supports FSA in their training and required personal development.

  • Develops and recommends FSA objectives within own span of control consistent with FSA and
Operational mandates, customer needs and internal requirements and manages the staffing and
- operational performance in meeting these objectives.
  • Conducts field visits and performs safe work observations.

Qualifications:

***- A Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience,

preferably in trades and safety.- Strong safety orientation and leadership capability.

  • Five (5) or more years of progressive experience integrating safety and health into the
workplace.- Knowledge of safety regulations, policies and practices with sound technical knowledge and

understanding of safety and occupational health.- Experience in management roles and/or leading individuals, crews, and initiatives.

  • Strong relationship building, facilitation, oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Training in Occupational Health & Safety would be an asset.
  • Work experience in a large electrical utility or comparable industrial setting would be an asset.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • The location of this position can be either be headquartered at Prince George, Vernon,
space availability.

  • A condition of employment for this job is that you have a Class 5 Driver's Licence and maintain it
in good standing.

  • Travel will be required to visit direct reports who are based throughout the Southern Interior and
Northern Interior, and Managers at their headquarters.

  • Travel to the Lower Mainland to attend meetings and training as required.
