Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Maintenance Superintendent.

Reporting to the Area Manager, Ready Mix Concrete, the Maintenance Superintendent will supervise and direct the plant maintenance activities and plant production personnel at the unionized Lower Mainland Ready Mix operations over a wide geographic area.

This position will be responsible for fixed assets (plants) in Greater Vancouver, 11 plant sites, involved with formulating Capex requirements for the group, and will have a strong presence in administering the safety and environmental programs at the plant sites.

This positon is based in Vancouver, BC.


What You'll Get To Do:


  • Planning for the plant maintenance programs for Greater Vancouver Concrete. Creates and manages preventative, shutdown and emergency maintenance activities.
  • Directs and supervises (unionized) millwrights and electricians for Heidelberg Materials. Assists in hiring/ discipline /training /succession planning and ensuring safety and environmental compliance of the work force meets company standards
  • Indirect supervision of (unionized) batchmen and plant supervisors. In coordination with Plant Production Supervisor and Heidelberg Field Superintendent will assist with observing day to day work, training, formal discipline and ensuring environmental and safety compliance of the workforce meets company standards
  • Administration of Safety program. Responsible for monthly safety meetings, administration of A&D policy in coordination with Safety Department and WSBC for all work related injuries and manages RTW for plant maintenance group. Responsible for reduction in trailing safety indicators ( LTI's, medical aids and modified duties.
  • Administration of environmental programs. Ensuring environmental compliance is met in regards to Company Policy/Metro Vancouver and Ministry of Environment regulations for Lower Mainland plants
  • Planning for Capex requirements. Assessing current plant capabilities and efficiency, and making recommendations for Capex including writing of AFE's. Responsible for the installation and budget of approved Capex projects for Lower Mainland unionized plant locations (11)

Who we are looking for:


  • Post-Secondary degree mechanical/structural engineering
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ready mix processes at plant level and extensive knowledge of plant maintenance requirements/procedures.
  • Familiar with local and provincial regulations for safety and environment.
  • 8 to 10 years' experience in an industrial setting (plants), 5 years' experience in RMC and 5 years' experience supervising a unionized workforce.

Work Environment:


  • Role operates primarily a professional office environment, but requires conducting business at manufacturing locations and job sites where the conditions include moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, and elevated noise levels
