Inspector II (Investigator), Building Services
The incumbent is responsible for carrying out investigations by conducting inspections of buildings and

properties to determine any non-compliance with the Ontario Building Code and other applicable

legislation. The incumbent coordinates their activities with other sections of the Department to ensure

that compliance is obtained.


Successful applicants will possess the following:

  • Post-secondary school degree/diploma in job related discipline from a recognized institution or
any combination of education, workplace training and experience deemed to be acceptable by the
Corporation.

  • A member in good standing of the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario, the
Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists, or the Ontario
Building Officials Association would be an asset.

  • Successful completion of the provincially mandated exam program administered or authorized by
the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. In addition to successful completion of either of the
courses entitled "General Legal/Process" or "Powers and Duties of a Chief Building Official", the
incumbent possesses/obtains and maintains Provincial Building Code qualifications in a minimum
of three of the following categories of classification, in any combination, as prescribed by the
building code for the types of buildings for which they will conduct plans review or inspections:

  • House
Small Buildings
Large Buildings
Complex Buildings
Plumbing
  • House
Plumbing - All Buildings
HVAC
  • House
Building Services
Building Structural

  • Three years' of experience in conducting investigations and/or building inspections in a regulatory
environment.

  • Practical knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations such as the _Building Code Act, Municipal _
  • Freedom of Information Act, Criminal Code, Canada Evidence Act_ and
_Provincial Offenses Act. _

  • Proven ability to deal professionally and courteously with the public, contractors and builders, and in
challenging situations.

  • Good interpersonal, analytical, communication (written and oral), and customer service skills.
  • Supports the development and continuous improvement of investigation and enforcement programs,
models, operational processes and tools.

  • Must be able to understand and interpret construction drawings.
  • Demonstrated applied field knowledge in the categories of classification as expressed by the Chief
Building Official.

  • Must be prepared to undergo a Criminal Reference Check as a condition of employment.
  • Must have a personal vehicle for use in the performance of duties and possess a valid Class "G"
Ontario Driver's Licence and provide consent for a Driver's Abstract. A clean driving record is
preferred.
Compensation includes a comprehensive benefits package, pension plan, and a salary range starting
at $43.03/hr. - $47.81/hr. (based on a 35 hour work week).
