Primary function:
To operate and maintain all building areas in a safe and efficient environment for member use.

The Winnipeg Winter Club maintains all aspects of fitness, training, swimming, sports, and arena membership.

The Winnipeg Winter Club is dedicated to give back to the community as a "Non-Profit" club which is always 'The Place To Be' for those looking to engage in challenging themselves, or for those who just need to come to a place of relaxation.

Duties


  • Inspects monitors and adjusts refrigeration equipment and confirms appropriate operating data within ice plant and arena.
  • The Shop Head is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our members' well-being. As the Shop Head, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the interior and exterior facility, including the boiler, refrigeration equipment, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, structural, grounds, pool, and arena facility.
  • Prepares alternative courses of action by requesting and reviewing the specific data and information, service inspections, reports, and the consultation of staff members to make well informed decisions on actions to be taken.
  • Develop professional relationships with contractors, as necessary.
  • Responds to on call maintenance tasks throughout the day/evening for staff and members.
  • Responds to after hours on call phone when required.
  • Provides member service, according to the Winnipeg Winter Club standards and deals with member concerns respectfully and without prejudice.
  • Reports to the Chief Engineer with any outstanding issues and concerns throughout the facility regarding problems that cannot be resolved independently.
  • Uses a CMMS computerized system to monitor the performance of heating, cooling and other environmental control equipment, re-programs the system to adjust parameters accordingly.
  • Maintains emergency protection systems and safety equipment in good running order, including fire alarm, sprinklers, lighting, extinguishers, entrance and exit doors, etc.
  • Controls evacuation of facility calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the boilers, equipment, and refrigeration plant in accordance with the building codes, by-laws and regulations of the Power Engineer's Act set out by the Fire Commissioner.
  • All other duties as required by Chief Engineer.
Conditions of Employment

  • Must be able to work Shift work and work in place of staff vacation when required.
  • Must be able to lift and transport heavy items without accident or injury (up to 50 lbs.) using appropriate assisted equipment.
  • Must be able to work from heights exceeding 13ft. using ladders/scaffolding.
  • Must have a good knowledge of heating, refrigeration, electrical, electronics, instrumentation, building design, plumbing, painting, and carpentry.
  • Must have minimum valid 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate recognized by the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner
  • Must be capable of performing all duties as assigned.
Organizational Skills

  • Assist the Chief Engineer by providing updates with building area improvements, organization, and staff concerns.
  • Knowledge of building equipment, manuals, instructions, and procedures to train and coordinate staff.
  • On an annual basis will require to shutdown pool for maintenance such as painting of the pool, repairs to equipment and decking, etc.
  • On an annual basis will require shutdown of arena to assist repairs, ice removal and replacement.
  • Conducts inventory of materials, supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Assess equipment needs of the department and develop proposals to justify the need.

Qualifications:

  • Experienced with HVAC, life safety systems and building control systems.
  • Must have an excellent understanding of boilers, cooling towers, chilled and hot water loop systems.
  • Must be able to handle and operate all tools and equipment necessary for safety and efficiency.
  • Be able to train, motivate and supervise Engineering staff.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety Regulations
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize workloads, manage deadlines and follow through with all assignments.
  • Good Communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to take decisive action.
  • Work with other staff to coordinate, resolve, and execute quick decisions.
