Shouldice Hospital in Thornhill, the leader in hernia repair surgery, is looking for a permanent full-time General Maintenance Worker. This position will be responsible for performing general building and property maintenance including groundskeeping duties.

Duties:


  • Perform necessary repairs, maintenance and groundskeeping duties as assigned.
  • Mechanical skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, minor electrical, minor
plumbing, repairs of hospital equipment, and painting to name a few.

  • The ability to use a variety of hand, power tools and yard equipment.
  • Perform drywall repairs and painting, as required.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on hospital facilities.
  • Comply with OHSA safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Perform daily ground and lawn maintenance including gardening, raking, blowing leaves
and snow removal.

  • Liaise with contractors and external vendors, as required.
  • Rooftop units to be maintained (filters cleaned/washed) and working from high heights.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Hours of work 8:00 am
  • 4:30 pm, Monday Friday.
  • On call rotating snow removal, some weekends as required.

Experience Required:


  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the operation and maintenance of building.
  • Building trades' certificate, or equivalent, an asset.
  • Handles the physical demands of the job, including standing, bending, pulling, pushing,
climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with others.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems
  • Experience using hand and electrical tools.
  • Driver license a must.
  • Ability to pass required training programs i.e., Kapota, Heights, and WHIMIS.
