We provide family law, estate planning and fertility law services across BC and Alberta with offices in Vancouver and Calgary.


As one of the fastest growing law firms in Canada, we are looking for a controller to join our fast-paced, collaborative, and diverse team.

This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and work from home.


The controller will have primary duties of both managing and overseeing daily accounting activities including accounts payable, billing, payroll, trust accounting and bank reconciliations.

The controller would also be responsible for liaising with the Law Societies (BC and Alberta), prepare reports for external accountants, and maintaining accurate records.

This person would lead other accounting staff and contractors and work together with the leadership team to ensure that accounting practices are efficient and accurate.

Experience with legal accounting software is an asset such as ESI Law or similar softwares.


Responsibilities:


  • Manage and/or oversee daytoday accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, trust accounting, and account reconciliations
  • Manage the financial monthend process, which includes ensuring all transactions are properly recorded, reviewing journal entries, reconciling account balances, and preparing financial statements and management reports
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of accounting policies and procedures
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate controls are in place for managing risk, maintaining compliance, and improving system efficiencies
  • Prepare required yearend reports and tax return documentation for the external accountant
  • Participate in any required external audit requirements to ensure successful results and compliance
  • Train, mentor and manage the accounting team and contractors

Skills and competencies we are looking for:

  • A CPA with a minimum 5 years of experience in an accounting role
  • Experience with law firms and legal accounting software
  • Proven abilities in fullcycle accounting, payroll, accounting software
  • Experience with trust reporting and law firm trust accounts
  • Familiarity with Law Society rules and reports
  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

Salary:
$90,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
