The District of North Vancouver is looking for an adaptable, self-motivated, customer-service oriented individual for a regular full-time position as a Commercial Plans Reviewer/Building Inspector 1.


In this role, you will:


  • Discuss construction, alteration and repair matters with contractors, engineers, architects, homeowners and the public.
  • Interpret requirements; advise on required changes and/or corrections; and determine compliance.
  • Have the opportunity to inspect residential, industrial and commercial projects during construction, alteration and repair to determine conformity with established bylaws, acts, codes, standards and regulations.

The successful applicant will have:


  • Thorough knowledge of building construction practices and methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant bylaws, acts, codes, standards and regulations.
  • The ability to read and interpret plans and related material to recognize technical requirements and suggest changes.
  • The ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • The ability to prepare reports, records and correspondence related to the work.
  • The ability to work with a minimum of supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • You have completed Grade 12 plus an apprenticeship in the carpentry trade or graduation from a postsecondary institution with a diploma in Building Technology and you have sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • You must be a BOABC member in good standing and have achieved a BOABC Level 3 qualification or possess an exempt professional designation.
  • A valid BC Driver's Licence is required.

Salary:

The pay range for this unionized position is
$44.78-$48.64 per hour based on a 35-hour work week, with a comprehensive benefits plan, 3 weeks of vacation to start, and earned time off opportunities.
