Position Hours:
Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, 35 hours weekly


Annual Salary:
$98,231.00 to $125,761 commensurate with education, skills and experience.


The Manager of Health & Wellness is responsible for implementing the Board's disability, return to work and WSIB claims management programs for all employee groups, promoting employee wellness and the importance of attendance.


Specific duties and responsibilities include:


  • Consulting with and providing support, guidance, functional advice, coaching and support to school leaders, senior leaders, department managers and employees with respect to health & safety, disability management, WSIB claims management, and return to work and accommodation matters.
  • Contributing to the development of clear, consistent attendance, claims management and return to work and health & safety strategies in consultation with the Executive Human Resources Officer, and overseeing the implementation of these strategies across the Board.
  • Leading the timely and safe return to work of SMCDSB employees from illness or injury.
  • Overseeing the Board's health & safety program and initiatives, and acting as the management cochair on the JHSC.
  • Reviewing and analyzing WSIB claims decisions for impact, initiating appeals as appropriate.
  • Managing the health & safety and disability management budgets.
  • Building productive working relationships with school leaders, managers, union representatives and employees by following through on commitments and communicating appropriate information in a timely, accurate and inclusive manner.
  • Executing all duties and responsibilities in a manner that actively supports SMCDSB's mission, vision, strategic priorities and Catholic values.

Required Skills and Qualifications:


All applicants must possess a minimum of a university degree in a related field such as occupational health, nursing or social work, with 5 years of previous related work experience dealing with legislation, workplace accommodation and disability management.

as a Human Resources professional in a unionized environment.

Registered Nurse with one of DOHN (Diploma Occupational Health Nursing), CCRC (Commission of Certified Rehabilitation Counsellors), RRP (Registered Rehabilitation Professional), COHN (Certified Occupational Health Nursing), OT/PTA or NIDMAR preferred.

Safety or Human Resources Professionals with experience with all levels of disability management and accommodation are also invited to apply.
