We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated
Housing Worker who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness and empowerment to our clients, families and each other.


The
Housing Worker will assist Government Assisted Refugees (GARs) in securing appropriate housing and provides ongoing support and guidance to Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP).

This position is a
unionized,
temporary, full-time position. The rate of pay is $22.31 per hour. This is a mobile, contract position until March 31, 2024.

**Key Responsibilities: - Oversee newcomer housing in provision of housing support services to Government Assisted Refugees in Newcomer Services.

  • Assist each participant with securing appropriate housing based on individual need
  • Provide housing support to GARs and cover shifts on the RAP floor as needed.
  • Provide advice, education, advocacy and practical help to clients.
  • Assists participants with their move into independent accommodations, including housing & neighborhood orientation through a Life Skills Worker
  • Maintain records of participation and relevant program statistics for housing.
  • Work with current landlords and expand list.
  • Be aware & knowledgeable with the landlord and Tenant act.
  • Be able to work on the RAP floor, community, accompaniments, and home visits.
  • Must be onsite where clients are temporarily accommodated in either Hamilton or surrounding cities.

What you will bring:


  • Diploma in social work or social service work
  • Asset if the applicant has current relationships with existing landlords in the Hamilton area; strong ability to create and maintain positive relationships with landlords.
  • Flexibility with work hours including evenings, weekends if needed.
  • Fluency in Somali and Swahili languages is strongly recommended.
